The movie is considered an "Ozploitation" (Australian exploitation) picture.
The film did not receive a theatrical release in its native Australia, but went straight to home video, bar a few theatrical screenings. The picture in December 1981 was intended to get a theatrical release but local distributors wouldn't have a bar of it.
In the documentary 'Not Quite Hollywood', Roger Ward comments that Terry Bourke was so enthusiastic about the fish tank murder scene that he refused to call cut until he was satisfied, and that Deborah Coulls did the stunt herself and nearly drowned in the enacting of it.
The film's closing credits declare that this production was: ''Filmed on location in Palm Beach, Whale Beach and Narrabeen, New South Wales, Australia''.
The name of the motel was the ''Rocky Beach Motel''.
