Fleet Streaming Up North River, The (1898)

Edison film running just under two minutes shows Admiral Sampson's Squadron going into New York Harbor via the Hudson River. The six battleships are certainly a treat on the eyes so this film is certainly an important piece of history. It was filmed on August 20, 1898 (a Saturday morning) and is one of the best reasons to show people why these early films are so important. I'm not sure how many films show these ships but the Edison print is in wonderful condition and gives a lot of detail in everything we're looking at. The cameraman gets as much as he can in each frame and his work is pretty impressive for this age.
