Ashanti....Good entertainer
parag_m_gadre18 January 2008
The film was Good entertainer, in line with those days. Those days such films with so many actors/star cast was liked by the masses. It was big Hit among front chairs, though those audience who prefer Class didn't quite like the movie. Rajesh Khanna's performance was very average. Mithunda was at his peak those days & above all all three heroines Parveen, Zeenat & yes even Shabbo looked very beautiful especially in the Lavani song. Amit Kumar-Asha Bhosle's duet became Hit whereas Lavani song & Chandrashekhar Gadgeel's "Shakti day" were moderately popular. Film did well in many parts whereas it could celebrate Silver Jubilee in 1 or 2 Centres. This might be last Hit from House of F C Mehra, Celebrated Film maker of yesteryear's.

Charlie's Angelic Homage

Within three seconds of the start of the movie, there is an explosion followed by an engaging car chase. That alone is enough for any fan of action to start enjoying this movie.

The script starts off very sharp, blending character building with progressive, thrilling, action sequences.

Big cast, but they are given time to be introduced into the story fittingly. And Rajesh Khanna is well placed in the starring role, shorn of his usual romantic overtones, he capably explores the role of a morally guided man on a mission.

Amrish Puri demonstrates why he is a Legend. He is not just a moustache-twirling, pantomime villain, there is depth to his character of a man corrupted by his ego.

Shabana Azmi is a real draw here because she brings a sensitive vulnerability to her character which is kind of wasted in an action movie like this.

Unfortunately, the movie starts to drag around halfway, with dumb plot vehicles and dumber acting. Maybe the production was hampered, but somehow it's as if the second half was the work of a different director than of the first half.

But then Amrish Puri comes back and salvages thing to an extent. Good thing that PETA didn't see this movie, Puri can be seen getting rather freaky with a snake in a very disturbing scene.

There's lot of good comedy set-ups, some intentional, thanks to Mithun and the divine Parveen Babi. And some unintentional, such as characters' names changing randomly (Kader becomes Ader, Shalini becomes Kamini), Rajesh Khanna's William Shatner-like delivery, the mother characters' aptitude for mortality, atrociously bad acting from the actor playing "Kader", male stunt doubles for women, bad foley effects such as a person imitating the barking of a dog, and most of all, Shabana Azmi looking embarrassingly cute when her character's meant to be taken seriously.

The ending is nonsensically convoluted, but ties things up... probably.

The first few songs are a bit of a nuisance, especially having to endure watching Zeenat Aman flipping around like a deranged, yodelling circus acrobat. But the later songs are enjoyable thanks to Babi, Mithun, more consistent music and the rest.

Overall, it's worth a watch for fans of the stars featuring here, especially the wonderful Shabana Azmi, but not much else to recommend it.

Action filled entertainer
sanjayppc16 April 2014
This film is from F.C Mehra, one of the fairly good directors in his time. It is a multi-starrer with Kaka in the lead. The 1st half belongs to Kaka totally. He plays an honest police officer who loses his legs just before the interval. He then has to seek the help of Mithun & the 3 heroines - Parveen, Zeenat & Shabana.

Mithun is his usual self. Amrish Puri is menacing & Zeenat & Parveen look gorgeous even while performing action. Shabana is a misfit here. The film celebrated silver jubilee in many centers.

Though it is close to 3 hours, it keeps your entertained, though the music by RDB could have been much better, considering his association with Kaka.

The film kept Kaka fans happy since it added to his list of hits.

Action all the way
alokc27 April 2007
This action packed movie has excellent performance by Rajesh Khanna and he fights his way with the gang of Amrish Puri. He is supported by 3 heroines but it is a Rajesh Khanna movie all the way. Shabna Azmi, Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi are there, Mithunda is there too for some action sequences but all of them get overshadowed by the towering performance of Rajesh Khanna the super star. The music by R D Burman is above average and the direction is perfect. May be the length of the movie could have been reduced. Other wise it is a must see for all action movie lovers and they will see a different Rajesh Khanna in it. His role of a police officer later on dismissed and then getting physically unfit is worth a watch. It is available on DVD and one must spend time seeing this movie.
