Jesse Franco's films have now spanned 4 decades, and he's a rather hit or miss director/writer/producer. I have some of his really old films which are pretty strange and racy, but interesting, and of his newer films, I rather liked Killer Barbys but thought Tender Flesh was absolute crap. What can one say about a movie where the highlight is a woman standing on a kitchen counter, peeing in a metal mixing bowl? Not much. Mari-Cookie & the Killer Tarantula has a few things to like about it but it probably and unfortunately has a few MORE things to not like. The music is cool, but then again so is the music in most Franco flicks. Lina Romay is a woman who is either a boring housewife with a sad sex life or a psychotic tarantula woman stripper and lesbian, you decide, because I couldn't tell. Either she spends most of her time in a fantasy world or this is all "really" happening. At any rate she was supposedly conceived of a mother that was raped and then a tarantula (that hums a little song) deposits eggs in the woman & there you have it, Mari-Cookie. If you enjoy extended lesbian groping then there's plenty of that here, and frankly it bores me to death & becomes not much more than filler to extend the running time. There is a generous helping of weirdness to this, and I'd have to watch it again to decide if it's truly worth keeping or not, but right now I'd give this about 3 out of 10 stars and say give this one a pass.
