Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie (1996)

Sonikku za hejjihoggu (original title)
What's blue and wears running shoes? Whoops! Ya missed him, as he's off to save the planet on a quest by the nefarious Dr. Robotnik, which turns out to be much of a trap. Smells fishy!

Storyline

Sonic the Hedgehog and his sidekicks Tails and Knuckles the Echidna are determined to thwart a plan that would turn their Land of the Sky into the equivalent of The Land of Darkness, which lurks beneath the surface (and is obviously the former planet Earth). So they plow through to the center of the planet and the ancient city of Robotropolis (the former New York City?) to do righteous battle. The big question of the day is whether the usually evil Dr. Robotnik is telling the truth for once or sending the good guys into a trap. Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

Trivia

In terms of references to the games, the movie is based on game characters and setting styles set before the character redux introduced in Sonic Adventure (1998), such as Sonic the Hedgehog, 2, CD, 3, & Knuckles. Sonic CD is particularly relevant considering the appearance of Metal Sonic and certain dynamic running animations of Sonic resembling the intro of the same game. See more »

Pretty good
1 December 2005 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Since I'm a big fan of Sonic, I liked this movie. It even took some time for me to fully get it what the movie was talking about. But overall, I liked the movie. Most Sonic fans will be pleased.

Sonic and Knuckles were voiced greatly if I do say so myself, but as always, Tails sounds like a little boy with a runny nose and a sinus infection.

Metal Sonic is the ideal villain in this movie, Eggman is hilarious at certain parts of the film, the old man owl was crazy, and that cat girl, Sara was cute, yet annoying.

Sonic fans, look deeper in the bargain bin and find this movie in the ashes of the forgotten movies right next to "AC/DC: Let There Be Rock"
