Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie (1996)

Sonikku za hejjihoggu (original title)
2:20 | Trailer
What's blue and wears running shoes? Whoops! Ya missed him, as he's off to save the planet on a quest by the nefarious Dr. Robotnik, which turns out to be much of a trap. Smells fishy!

Sonic the Hedgehog and his sidekicks Tails and Knuckles the Echidna are determined to thwart a plan that would turn their Land of the Sky into the equivalent of The Land of Darkness, which lurks beneath the surface (and is obviously the former planet Earth). So they plow through to the center of the planet and the ancient city of Robotropolis (the former New York City?) to do righteous battle. The big question of the day is whether the usually evil Dr. Robotnik is telling the truth for once or sending the good guys into a trap. Written by Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}

Did You Know?

In terms of references to the games, the movie is based on game characters and setting styles set before the character redux introduced in Sonic Adventure (1998), such as Sonic the Hedgehog, 2, CD, 3, & Knuckles. Sonic CD is particularly relevant considering the appearance of Metal Sonic and certain dynamic running animations of Sonic resembling the intro of the same game. See more »

When Sonic and Tails are fighting Metal Robotnik, he shoots glue at Tails' twin tails. Tails says he can't fly to help Sonic, but when he gets the piece of concrete to surf across the water, you can see that his tails are not glued together. See more »

Sonic: Old man, those things are dangerous! Stop riding them!
Old Man Owl: [talking to a flower instead of Sonic, mostly due to his poor vision] What are you talking about, Mr. Sonic? I know how to handle them. I know I'm a little older now, but back in my day, I was quite the racer. Believe me, I was pretty popular with the ladies! Wahahaha!

Amazing Movie!
21 May 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Sonic the Hedgehog OVA is a movie that has a 90s feel to it. It's got so many things that amaze me such as The story! It feels like one of my All Time Favorite game Sonic CD. There's not really much to say that's bad to say about the movie. The movie focuses on how Sonic has finally meat his match, someone, or in this case something, that is actually faster than him. Knuckles isn't an idiot and is actually useful, unlike the new games now. The voice acting is probably the only flaw about the movie because the voices don't really match the personalities of the characters. Anyways, This is truly, the best Video Game movie out there!
