Musical

Apart from the fact that I didn't really care for a lot of Jari's playing, I enjoyed this movie quite a lot. Jones' performance, as you might expect, was magnificent. Ball and the other actors did a good job, and the production values were generally good.

I think in order to really appreciate the story, though, you have to be the type of musician that Leo is; the kind that just can't imagine not expressing themselves through music. It's not something you do, it's just who you are. Many fine musicians learn to put themselves into their music. But for someone like Leo, it couldn't be any other way.

Interestingly, this is the one thing I would fault the story on -- Jari isn't that kind of musician. He sometimes talks like he is, and Carla seems to think he is, but I just don't feel it from him.

That's a minor consideration, though; overall I liked the movie quite well.

Pretty Awful

Watching this film was a painful experience... the only reason I didn't give it a 1 is because I feel that the actors deserve some credit for having to suffer thru the production of this travesty. I hear that the producers are looking for distribution... My advice... stop! Stop now! Get a real job! Please!

Don't waste your time

Movie had a pitifully slow moving plot that never reached a conclusion worth waiting for. Obscene and gratuitous sex scene. I seriously cannot comprehend how this film is not rated R. I don't know what it takes for a film to be considered X rated or porn but this has to be teetering on the brink of that rating. F-bomb dropped A LOT. So many times in fact that I finally lost count. A lot if cussing besides the F-bomb. Overall I feel that this movie was a disappointing waste of time. Perhaps I had too high of expectations when I saw one of the main characters was portrayed by James Earl Jones but, I suspect I could have zero expectations and still be grossly disappointed. Music was excellent and very much worth listening to, one its own, but not with the issues with plot, sex scene and pervasive language.

A Movie with a lot of soul
groyne7 December 2002
This is not a great movie in terms of cast,or dramatic story. There are no outstanding performances by any of the actors, and not too many people will remember this movie a year after they've seen it.what it does have though,is lot of soul, and yes, some great music.A must see.
