12 genetically enhanced childern escape from a military base that created them. 10 years later, after The Pulse, a magnetic bomb that destroyed every computer in USA, has struck, Max Guevara, one of the 12 escapees, is a bike messenger in (what's left of) Seattle and with cyberjournalist, Logan Cale, she tries to rid the world of crime and corruption, avoid her creators and uncover her past. During the discussion when Logan Cale tracks down Max and first meets her in the bar, Original Cindy looks at her watch and you hear her say "Xena's on!" without her lips moving. The voice doesn't even appear to be hers though she's the only one within hearing distance. See more »
I need a favor.
You can keep this. I really don't have anyplace to put it.
I need you to do a little leg work for me. Joel Solinski. This guy's got a wife with three kids, an ex-wife with two kids, a mistress, and two girlfriends. The wives get houses, the mistress a condo, and everybody gets a car... all on a harbormaster's salary.
I caught the tail end of your hack. The guy's on the take. He's paid to look the other way while the smugglers deep-six their cargo.
He's made a fortune... as an ...

Max Guevara is a young woman who is genetically modified to be a killing weapon. She escaped an experimental camp as a child and is still haunted by where the rest are or even if they got away. In this future the world is recovering from the effect of left-wing rebels' assault on the world's computer systems. Max works as a biker messenger when she meets cyberrebel Logan Cale who wants the truth as much as her. He helps protect her from Lydecker (eager to recapture all his children) and she helps him set wrongs right.
I watched the pilot (of which this is a review) and write this before the second part comes on TV. I had high hopes for this based on the hype and I semi-enjoyed it. The plot is basic and it's not clear what they're going to do with it. I must say it didn't grab me and it didn't really enthral me or want me to keep watching.
The action is nothing special and the rest is a split of teenage cool and duff-political ramblings. It doesn't quite come together and just feels like the makers had just tried to make it as loud as they could rather than really building characters, plot or tension. That's not to say it's not enjoyable but really I just can't see it being sustained for a series (never mind two!)
Alba is sexy but she's not a good actress here. Her character is like a teenage doll and the pilot gives her no personality or emotions that are believable. Weatherly is cool in a `appeal to teenage girls' type of way and the rest of the cast are all just cast-offs from various failed teen comedies.
Overall this was enjoyable but it doesn't quite work. I will stick with it and hope that it at least develops the good ideas and improves on the weaknesses I saw here. I'll comment on the show's page when I get a better feel for it.
