6 of the best and worst moments of WWE Raw 07.04.16 – USA vs. The World! Vaudevillains jobbed out! Enzo & Cass team with Cena and more

Luke Owen looks at the best and worst moments of this week’s WWE Raw

This week’s show is going to draw a terrible rating due to the national holiday, and as such WWE put out the sort of lame-duck show one would usually see around Christmas and New Years time.

It was main evented by a cluster-tag match, a feud was seemingly ended (quickly) and there was a champion vs. champion match that means absolutely nothing in 2016. So let’s look at the best and worst from the show with our Boo! Yay! rating system.

Boo! Enzo & Cass involved with the Social Outcasts

It was slightly worrying last week when Enzo & Cass – one of the hottest acts on the roster – were involved in a terrible in-ring segment with The J.O.B. Squad 2016, The Social Outcasts. It was worrying because it was an awful use of the characters, »

WWE Payback Preview – Roman Reigns vs. Aj Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho and more

1 May 2016 1:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s the first post-Mania PPV, and the first of the “new era”…

What a difference a few weeks makes. In the lead up to WrestleMania 32, we were bemoaning the state of the roster, and how bland the card was going in. Now that Mania is done and dusted for another year, we’ve got a whole host of new performers, new feuds, old feuds given new life and even a fresh face in the title hunt. What a difference eh? If this really is the “new era” of WWE, it’s looking like it could be a good one.

Aj Styles debuted at Royal Rumble and has since been stuck in a revolving door feud with Chris Jericho that somehow led to Y2J pinning Styles at ‘Mania. Depsite that loss, Aj became the new #1 Contender on the »

WWE WrestleMania 32 Preview – Roman Reigns vs. Triple H, Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell, Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar and more

2 April 2016 2:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s the biggest WrestleMania of all-time with one of the most depleted rosters in recent memory. Injuries to top talent has left WWE in a quandary, but they’ve pushed forward with their plans questionable booking and all – it’s WrestleMania 32…

Well, it’s that special time of year. A time when wrestling fans – both current and lapsed – come together and celebrate this bizarre past time we call Professional Wrestling Sports Entertainment. Some might say that the Nxt Takeover: Dallas card is more impressive (and they’re right), but there’s something special about WrestleMania that you just can’t deny. I saw a small photo of the stage being built yesterday and my excitement grew – just a small photo! The card is problematic, and the injuries to top talent like John Cena, Seth Rollins, Neville and Cesaro along with the retirements of Daniel Bryan and Sting mean that the roster is very, »

10 Things I Hate About WrestleMania

1 April 2016 4:36 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE

WrestleMania is, incredibly, now about to hit its thirty-second instalment as WWE’s biggest, most grandiose event of the year. And if it’s WWE’s biggest, then it’s the professional wrestling industry’s biggest, too.

In the old days, the company had the so-called Big Four pay-per-views – Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series – rising head and shoulders above the smaller events broadcast every month. Nowadays, though, WrestleMania doesn’t even belong in the same ballpark as the other three.

The Show Of Shows is an industry all in itself. Practically every promotion, person and pro wrestling patron with ties to the business will descend upon Dallas this week to snap up all the available hotel space and fill the city’s social calendar to bursting with wrestling-related events.

WrestleMania brings in so much revenue that the effect has been compared to civic regeneration: an independent study »

10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2006

28 March 2016 10:54 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

It’s the moment that many WWE supserstars dream of: winning the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Many dream it, but very few actually get to experience it. Among those least likely to do so are 5ft 5in, 160lb mask-wearing luchadores. In all seriousness, can you picture Kalisto ever winning the Royal Rumble and lifting the company’s top prize on the grandest stage of them all?

It’s far from a likely scenario, but it’s exactly what happened to Rey Mysterio in 2006. That year should have been one of the biggest in Rey’s career. Previously viewed as little more than a cruiserweight performer who could probably wish for, at best, a United States title run, Rey was suddenly thrust into the limelight and pushed all the way to the top.

But the reality was that the dream scenario wasn’t all that it seemed, for »

WWE Raw: 8 Things To Expect Tonight (Mar 21)

21 March 2016 6:26 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Suddenly, almost without warning, we’re just two weeks from WrestleMania 32. Time has flown since the Royal Rumble, and WWE now find themselves in a hurry to finish off a (very debatable) April 3rd card. Hopefully this week’s Raw will see a few loose ends tied up.

While last week’s show was certainly more stacked – with Undertaker and Shane McMahon finally coming face to face (and Mick Foley making a very fun cameo) – tonight is arguably more crucial for WWE.

It’s also a huge challenge. The carnival is in Philadelphia this week, which means a positive reception is almost certainly not in store, particularly with Roman Reigns topping the bill. Hopefully WWE are canny about their booking tonight, and try their best not to antagonise a potentially destructive crowd.

Whatever happens, we’ll certainly have a clearer idea of how WrestleMania 32 is likely to pan out, »

Mr. Anderson Released From Tna

Our top story today is the release of Mr Anderson from Tna.

Last week, appearing on an Icw show in Glasgow, Ken Anderson – formerly Mr Kennedy in the WWE – revealed that he is no longer with Tna. This got the rowdy crowd – they were crowdy – chanting naughty words at Tna.

Anderson hasn’t been that heavily featured on Impact programming for a while, and Pro Wrestling Sheet have now revealed that Anderson has indeed been released by Tna following a failed drug test.

According to their sources, Anderson was apparently under the influence during a match against Eric Young which was set to air on the 19th January episode of Impact. »

5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE SmackDown (March 10)

18 March 2016 5:07 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WWE had the added advantage of being able to offer up a completely fresh match on this week’s edition of Thursday Night Smackdown. Aj Styles has been a great addition to the main roster since arriving back in January at the Royal Rumble, whereas Kevin Owens has pretty much been consistently entertaining since making his debut last year. Putting them together seemed like a great idea, but was the actual content of the match up to scratch?

Styles is being prepared for yet another bout opposite Chris Jericho come WrestleMania 32, whilst Owens looks likely to defend the WWE Intercontinental Title against Sami Zayn. Both matches have an exciting feel to them, despite being aired numerous times in the past on shows like Raw, Smackdown and Nxt.

Elsewhere on this week’s Smackdown, there was the promise of seeing Roman Reigns back on the blue brand to discuss »

Bray Wyatt Cuts Cryptic Promo On His Role At WrestleMania 32

18 March 2016 3:56 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WWE’s website is pushing a Bray Wyatt promo that teases something “wicked” for WrestleMania. “I know something you all don’t know,” he hisses.

Bray conducted the promo for this week’s WWE SmackDown broadcast. He started by proclaiming “What would WrestleMania be without Bray Wyatt? What would a beast be without its teeth? What would a reaper be without a soul to take? What would a king be without his crown?”

You can see the video of the promo below;

Grahame’s Take

Wyatt mentioned a beast, a reaper, and a king. It sounds like he’s referring to Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, and Triple H. However, it could just be a way of WWE stirring the pot. It is worth remembering that Wyatt’s promos are often nonsensical and typically amount to nothing.

There is of course some scope for him having feuds with all »

8 Awesome Wrestling Stars You’ve Never Even Heard Of

14 March 2016 7:23 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Tumblr

In the interests of broadening the pro wrestling education of many reading this, it’s about time we all admitted the truth: not every wrestling legend is a WWE or Nwa alumnus, or a part of the hallowed Hall Of Fame.

I know, I know, it’s astonishing isn’t it? But, all joking aside, many casual fans had only peripherally heard of Aj Styles before the Royal Rumble, and have never heard the name Shinsuke Nakamura before.

Even those of us with a fine background in north American wrestling over the last couple of decades, the kind of people who’ve got Ring Of Honor cards from 2005 memorised, don’t always know who’s who when it comes to overseas talent or the stars of the pre-cable territorial age.

With that in mind, let’s consider some of the more glaring omissions from the casual wrestling cultural lexicon, »

7 Burning Questions For WWE Roadblock

12 March 2016 8:45 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WWE seems keen on coming up with clever names for events that take place between the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania, a time period designated as the Road to WrestleMania. Hence, we get the February PPV Fastlane, and now the March WWE Network special event Roadblock.

But what kind of event will Roadblock be? This is the latest in a series of special events WWE has put on, turning what normally would be house shows into exclusive programs for the Network. We saw Elimination Chamber revived as a late May event, then Beast in the East beamed in from Japan in July, and a Madison Square Garden house show was broadcast in October.

Those shows were fun and unique, with Beast in the East providing the most unique look (plus an Nxt Championship title change!). But now, we’re on the fourth such event, so you have to wonder »
