Dark Hearts and Gold Miners
boblipton22 January 2016
When Carlyle Blackwell is out prospecting, he discovers more than gold. He rescues William West and takes him in as his partner. When William helps himself to the gold and Alice Joyce, and Carlyle learns that his partner is a wanted man with $1000 on his head, he starts to convince himself of a different course of action.

The print of this movie, which can be found on the Harpodeon.com site, varies in quality from quite beautiful to almost unwatchable. Likewise, the acting, which varies from good -- ingénue Alice Joyce displays a straightforward manner that would serve her well for the next two decades -- to some overwrought posturing by Mr. Blackwell. Kalem has long seemed to me the least of the Patents Trust companies, relying more on a strong publicity office and its action female stars. This one is no more than an adequate example of their other output.
