Chanting Lifts Keanu's Spirits

4 October 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood hunk Keanu Reeves has placed his faith in ancient Buddhist practices in a desperate bid to end his bad luck. Keanu has been cursed with misfortune for the past year - his sister was diagnosed with leukemia, he had a near-fatal motorbike accident, his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Syme was killed in a car crash and then his Matrix Reloaded co-star Aaliyah died in a plane crash. But Keanu is determined to fight back - and he's placed his hope with the Buddhist faith he first encountered on the set of 1993's Little Buddha. A worker on the Matrix sequel's set reveals that Keanu and his co-stars chant prayers and throw lit rice paper into a "make-shift pyre". American Buddhist guru Reverend Kusala says, "By chanting to ward off evil spirits, Keanu is ensuring the studio is blessed with good karma. It could actually be taking it further, and asking that the movie pass good karma around the world every time it's watched." »

Keanu Trained To Max For Matrix 2

5 September 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie megastar Keanu Reeves had to train extra hard for the upcoming Matrix sequel - so hard he ended up in hospital. The Matrix Reloaded is not due for release until 2003, but is already in production along with a third instalment, planned for 2004. And Reeves - who plays Neo in the flicks - says the movies are set to be bigger and deadlier than the original. He promises, "Last time all the fights for Neo were one on one. Now it's one on five." And training for the scenes was so rigorous he put himself in plaster while working out. He adds, "I got a trauma on my ankle that put me in a cast for four days." »

Carrie-Anne's Strike Knowledge Boosted By Co-Star

12 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Carrie-Anne Moss has her very own shop steward on the set of The Matrix sequel - in the shape of co-star Joe Pantoliano. As Hollywood races towards an all-out writers' strike this summer - which is threatening to halt filming on The Matrix 2 - Moss is grateful for veteran Pantoliano's knowledge on all industry union issues, because she now knows exactly what's at stake. She says, "Joey is such a dear friend of mine but he is also my Screen Actors' Guild connection - he knows everything about it." The actor even came to Moss's aid when she was spending a fortune on medical bills while the pair filmed The Matrix. She adds, "When I made The Matrix I had no income in America, it all came through Australia, so I lost my medical benefits because you have to make $5, 000 a year to get medical benefits, so I had to pay for mine for a good year-and-a-half. So I'm in this huge movie and I'm paying $1, 500 a month. I'm Canadian, where it's free, we don't pay for our medical so it's a bit tough and you don't make residuals when you make something out of the country. I really was lost until Joey stepped forward and showed me of all the benefits I could get back from the union. I'm still no expert but I know a lot more. Joey's obsessed about the whole thing." »

Keanu Reeves: I'm Mourning In Private

5 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Keanu Reeves is keeping well out of public eye following the tragic death of his girlfriend Jennifer Syme. Syme, 29, died in a massive car crash in Los Angeles on Monday morning. She had been Reeves for the past few years and discovered in 1999 that she was pregnant with his child. The couple were heartbroken when the baby girl, who they'd already named Eva, was stillborn on Christmas Eve 1999. Reeves, who is about to start shooting his latest film, The Matrix 2, in Australia, said that he hoped the media will leave him alone with his grief. He released a one line statement that read, "I'm mourning in private". »

Will's The Perfect Man

4 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is still astonished by husband Will Smith - because he becomes a better husband and father every day. Jada says she married the Men In Black star because she knew there was something special about him - but she didn't expect him to keep getting better. And now that they have two children, she's convinced she has the perfect man. She says, "The thing about Will is he learns every single day how to grow as an individual, as a husband, and as a father. It never stops. Everyday I see a progression. It just surprises me, the revelations he begins to have as a parent. That's what parenthood is all about, because I swear, these kids do not come with instructions." But the actor is such a good dad that his kids hate it when he's not there, and Jada's determined to make sure they stay together as a family. She adds, "This year will be kind of hard. Will's working, I'm working. But one thing I have learned from this experience is that won't be happening again. It's too difficult, because my kids miss their father. It's not enough to see Daddy on the weekends. When I'm working on The Matrix 2 in Australia Will's coming to Australia - done deal. While I'm shooting 'The Matrix,' he'll be there." »
