More Matrix Movies? Here's What The Trilogy's Producer Thinks

20 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The way things work nowadays, remakes and reboots tend to clog the multiplexes. When Hollywood tries something original, like The Nice Guys for example, audiences basically overlook it in favor of the familiar . from another X-Men movie to the latest Marvel blockbuster. So you can understand why legendary producer Joel Silver was asked if one of his most successful film series, The Matrix trilogy, could ever extend, or even be remade. His answer gives me hope that the Wachowski.s vision will be left untouched.   As you likely recall, 1999.s The Matrix was such an inventive, genre-bending piece of science-fiction, the Wachowski Sisters immediately were tasked with creating a sequel. They took it one step further and crafted a trilogy, delivering The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. The sequels didn.t quite live up to the original film, but it doesn.t sound like anyone is going to get »

The Matrix

The (then) Wachowski Brothers genre bending thriller plays more levels of 3-D chess than perhaps Spock himself could have handled. The directors tapped into some mind-meld with moviegoers as well; The Matrix was a smash hit making way for two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Stylistically innovative and much copied, the film starred Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss as the slow-motion somersaulters of the matrix.

Comic Book Review Civil War II #0

23 May 2016 10:51 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

The problems with sequels is expectation. When you have a project that is received so well by an audience, a follow up is not always able to reach the levels of expectation people want from that product. For every “The Empire Strikes Back” and “The Godfather II” there’s “The Matrix Reloaded”, a sequel that advanced the story but did not reach the level of expectation people had for it.

The biggest Marvel event of the past decade was Civil War. Marvel, doing what they do best, assembled every character in their arsenal and gave us a story that touched upon some real life issues in a way that wasn’t preachy and didn’t pound you over the head with it’s obviousness. To create a sequel to a story that is so well received would be a tough job for any team.

Deadpool Is Coming to Digital HD Earlier Than Expected

22 April 2016 10:11 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Earlier this month, it was announced that 20th Century Fox's Deadpool will debut on Blu-ray and DVD May 10, although it won't be available on laserdisc or VHS formats just yet. One format that hasn't been mentioned is a Digital HD release, which many studios use to release their movies a few weeks earlier than the traditional route. As it turns out, Deadpool will be no different, with star Ryan Reynolds announcing on his Twitter page that the Digital HD version of Deadpool is coming earlier than expected, and will be here next week, on Tuesday, April 26.

It isn't known which special features will be included on the Digital HD release. But we learned earlier this week what will be included on the Blu-ray release. The Deadpool extras include Deleted/Extended scenes with optional commentary from director Tim Miller, a Gag Reel, and the featurette From Comics to Screen...to Screen, »

Foul-mouthed mutant to return in sequel to record-breaking first film, which could usher in a new wave of comic-book movies aimed at adults

A sequel to the zeitgeist-shifting superhero movie Deadpool is to move into production, with star Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller both set to return, studio 20th Century Fox has confirmed.

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also returning for the follow-up to the highest-grossing “R” rated movie of all time. Deadpool overtook the Wachowskis’ 2003 sci-fi sequel The Matrix Reloaded last month to break the record, and has now posted receipts of $757.3m (£672m) worldwide.

Ryan Reynolds Has Reportedly Locked Down A Deal For Deadpool 2

6 April 2016 11:52 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The very concept of comic book movie success was smashed to smithereens when Deadpool came along. An R-rated, low-budget superhero caper that broke the fourth wall and generally pratted about, it wasn’t destined for box office greatness. And then something unexpected happened: it made boatloads of money.

A win with critics and fans is a hard thing to come by nowadays (hello, Batman V Superman!), and yet Tim Miller’s movie proved that it’s possible. The $58 million movie has made upwards of $750 million worldwide, surpassing the R-rated likes of The Matrix Reloaded and making a bigger profit than Dawn of Justice.

And so, in some rather unsurprising news, Ryan Reynolds will return to play the Merc With A Mouth. Well, we already knew that, but now we’re getting word that the actor has finished negotiating his contract for Deadpool 2. He “only” made $2 million on the first flick, »

'Deadpool 2': Ryan Reynolds agrees to return for sequel

6 April 2016 10:41 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fans of the sarcastic superhero Deadpool have reason to celebrate as Ryan Reynolds is apparently back on board to play the title character. Heroic Hollywood is reporting that Reynolds, who led Deadpool to a global box office of more than $750 million, will reprise the Marvel character for the already greenlit sequel. Considering the first film’s massive haul, this news really isn’t a surprise. It was simply just a matter of what kind of raise Reynolds would see since he only received a reported $2 million upfront salary the first time around. Since its February 2016 release, Deadpool has smashed box office records and is already the highest grossing R-rated movie ever, surpassing The Matrix Reloaded. Unlike other recent superhero movies (cough…BvS…cough), it also was critically lauded, with a rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 83 percent. There is no release date yet for Deadpool 2. »

'Deadpool 2' Begins Shooting This Fall?

5 April 2016 12:22 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

There has never been any question that Ryan Reynolds will return for Deadpool 2. What has been up for debate is just how much money the star is going to ask for this time around, seeing as how the first Deadpool was an unexpected blockbuster and a box office phenomenon. While no numbers are being unveiled yet, it was reported earlier today by HeroicHollywood that the actor has successfully closed his deal with a fat raise in place, and that shooting will begin as early as Fall 2016.

Still playing in theaters with a May 10 Blu-ray and DVD release date already announced, Deadpool wowed just about everybody by pulling in an unexpected $754.5 million at the worldwide box office. The movie has even passed The Matrix Reloaded to become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. The movie had a considerably small budget, especially for a big Marvel superhero movie. It »

It's Official: 'Deadpool' Is the Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie of All Time

30 March 2016 8:48 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

F--k yeah. The world loves"Deadpool," pushing it to No. 1 on the list of highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Ryan Reynolds film has taken in more than $745 million worldwide, which means it has dethroned "The Matrix Reloaded" ($742.1 million) for the title.

Interestingly enough, "Deadpool" is the top overall, but still not No. 1 for R-rated movies in North America. So far, EW reported, "Deadpool" has a total of $349.4 million, and they expect it will take the place of "American Sniper" ($350.1 million) at No. 2. However, it doesn't look like The Merc with a Mouth will be defeating "The Passion of the Christ," which is in the top domestic position with $370.8 million.

But taking No. 1 overall, as the top money-making R-rated movie around the world, is further confirmation that a non PG or PG-13 superhero film can find a market. A big one. Plus, unlike poor "Batman v Superman, »

‘Deadpool’ Overtakes ‘Matrix Reloaded’ as Highest-Grossing R-Rated Movie

29 March 2016 8:52 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Neo is no match for the “Merc With a Mouth.”

Deadpool” has supplanted “The Matrix Reloaded” to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history with more than $745 million globally. The “Matrix” sequel racked up its $742.1 million worldwide when it hit theaters in 2003.

Domestically, “Deadpool” is poised to overtake “American Sniper’s” $350.1 million stateside gross to become the second-biggest R-rated movie. “Deadpool” has earned $349.4 million in North America, but may not be able to catch up to “Passion of the Christ’s” $370.8 million to become the highest-grossing R-rated film on a domestic basis.

It’s a big win for Fox, the studio behind the raunchy action pic. Most studios shy away from greenlighting R-rated comic book films because they worry that teenagers won’t be able to buy tickets. With its liberal use of four-letter words and extreme violence, “Deadpo0l” is certainly not for the squeamish or prudish. Fox tried »

Deadpool Becomes Highest Grossing R-Rated Movie Ever

While Batman v Super: Dawn of Justice is currently raking in the dough, lets not forget that another little comic book movie was cutting through box office records like it was brandishing a pair of katana’s. I am, of course, talking about Deadpool, whose journey to box office domination began with  a $260 million worldwide opening weekend, pretty darn impressive for an audience restricting R-rated non-sequel not technically view as a famous property. Well, it turns out the Merc with a Mouth can not be stopped, and this past weekend saw it hit an astounding $745.9 million worldwide, cementing it’s place in history as the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time. It usurps the current title holder, The Matrix Reloaded, which held onto the top spot for an impressive 13 years. Deadpool was always one of those movies we never thought we’d see. New "Deadpool," "Batman" Box-Office Talk

While everyone was talking about the DC heroes at the box-office this weekend, Fox's little engine that could - "Deadpool" - broke a new record.

The Ryan Reynolds-led darkly comedic superhero film soared past "The Matrix Reloaded" to become the highest grossing R-rated film worldwide with a whopping $745 million. On the domestic front it's still in third place, but is expected to pass second place holder "American Sniper" this week as it's just one million dollars behind it.

The film will need an additional $20 million though to take the top spot which is still held by Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ".

Meanwhile Forbes has come to an interesting conclusion regarding the box-office performance of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".

It seems the film, which revised its Friday-Sunday estimates downwards from $170 million to $166 million when actual figures came in, scored the single biggest drop between Friday »

While this weekend belonged to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, another superhero was still making enough noise to upset the history of the box office.
