Avant-garde masterpiece.
This a real find. Richard Kerr (whose premier occupation is a teacher) is one of Canada's unsung independent heroes. Of the few films I have seen, this is his masterpiece. This stunning short features a travelogue across the country, shot in timelapse. These blinding visuals are accompanied with a heavy soundtrack of representative noise (think of a long record needle scratch) which is also rather rhythmic, pulsating, keeping in time with the overload of images. The film then simulates a long train ride (and we are seeing the country as though we were the nose of the engine), and compacts it all into 20 hypnotic minutes. It is a rewarding, invigorating experience.
