ALTA FIDELIDADE is another of those TV movies produced and broadcasted by the Portuguese TV station SIC some years ago. In spite of being a TV movie it's a very good movie and it has a kind of cinematography that is not used too many times in Portuguese films. In fact the camera work is very good and the soundtrack (which uses to be bad in Portuguese films) is also great and very connected to the movie. The Techno party scene is my favourite and I think it's just great!
The plot is about two friends, NUNO (Pedro Laginha) and FLASH (Miguel Borges) which live together and decide to rent one room of the house in order to have more money to pay the rent. It's when they meet CARLA (Maria João Bastos). She starts living with them and predictably one of them, in this case NUNO, falls in love with her... Everything was going fine until he goes to Amsterdam. After his back he's told FLASH and CARLA had an affair... They broke up but after a Techno party in their house (which was already planned) things went even worse...
This movie surprised me a bit because I didn't expect this kind of cinematography. The plot is nice, nothing too original but nice enough; but the cinematography is really good and I would even say it's exceptional to Portuguese standards! The acting is also fine and I would like to mention it stars a very promising actress in the beginning of her career at that time: Maria João Bastos. She did well her character as the other two main actors. I just didn't like some secondary characters in this movie, because I think the actors had to do a better job. I'm talking for instance about Rogério Samora...
Well, all in all I enjoyed the movie and I think it adds something to the Portuguese cinema in spite of being just a TV movie... I score it 8/10 (mainly for its cinematography).
