Fast Five Trailer Starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson

15 December 2010 6:06 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Just when everyone thought The Fast and the Furious franchise was all but dead, Vin Diesel returned and breathed new life into the series. Fast & Furious grossed $353 million worldwide, the most out of any installment, which meant only one thing: there was going to be a sequel. Now Dominic Toretto (Diesel), Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster) are returning for "one last job", only this time they're being chased by federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson). The movie takes place in Rio de Janeiro, and finds them going after a corrupt businessman / drug lord who wants them dead. Of course, there are still plenty of fast cars involved, and no shortage of death defying stunts. Normally I'd say this is one blockbuster I probably won't be seeing, but then again, I did end up seeing the last one and this trailer doesn't look half-bad. It certainly seems »

First Fast Five trailer arrives, features cars

14 December 2010 8:17 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Men drive cars! Men crash cars! It’s the first trailer for the forthcoming Fast Five...

Critics hate them, and they're the kind of movies you can't, apparently, really openly admit to liking. It's The Fast And The Furious series, and whether you're a particular fan of their mixture of speeding cars and macho posturing or not, they keep making money, so Hollywood keeps on rolling them off the production line.

Fast Five, which once again stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker as the petrol heads always on the wrong side of the law, looks like the most over the top series entry yet. We tried to count the number of wrecked cars that appear in the first trailer, but got bored after three and then went and did some washing up.

Note, too, that among the crashing vehicles and repeated shots of ladies' posteriors, Paul Walker is never given the opportunity to speak. »

Fast Five Trailer: Is It Furious Enough?

14 December 2010 6:00 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Oh, it is on! The trailer for Fast Five has arrived—wait, you don't know what that is? It's the fifth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise, that's what! And Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are up against their toughest challenger yet: A no-nonsense federal agent played by Dwayne Johnson. All your favorites are back, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, and they're continuing their world tour—this time taking their action skills to the streets (and rooftops) of Rio De Janeiro. It's hard to imagine the first film came out way back in 2001. It can't be easy to keep a franchise fresh over the course of a decade, but with the adrenaline »

Remember back in 2007 how Lil Wayne and Ja Rule were busted separately on the same night for gun charges. We all know Lil Wayne did his time. Now it's Ja Rule's turn. But he could be going away for much longer. Rule (real name: Jeffrey Atkins) pleaded guilty today in a Manhattan courtroom to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. "Because of your guilty plea here today, you'll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter," Justice Richard Carruthers told the rapper. Ja Rule, who earned a Grammy nomination for the hit album Pain Is Love and appeared in The Fast and the Furious, will likely get two years in prison when he is »

Johnson and Diesel Go Head-to-Head in First Image From Fast Five

13 December 2010 11:30 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

A new image from Fast Five (the forth sequel to 2001’s The Fast and the Furious) has roared online ahead of tomorrow’s new trailer and features two of its muscle-bound leads.

Dwayne Johnson makes his debut with the franchise, and judging by the Us box office receipts of his latest high-speed action vehicle, Faster (out of the top ten in three weeks, having earned a little over $20 mil) the artist formally known as The Rock is desperately in need of a hit. He’s playing the role here of a tough, no nonsense cop called Hobbs, who is hot on the trail of the street racers Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson.

The makers probably felt it was beneficial to give Johnson the goatee as otherwise, audiences may have difficulties distinguishing between him and Diesel! They are both incredibly similar, particularly now that Johnson is shaven-headed.

HBO’S Three Wise Men On Why Movies Stink – Or Do They?

Between them, they have nearly a century’s worth of TV programming experience, and were part of a generation of Home Box Office management which helped turn company into the premier subscription television service not only in the U.S., but in the world.  Their longevity has given them the opportunity to live through their company’s change from a raucously-growing enterprise to a mature business, evolving from what had primarily been a movie service to a programmer just as identified with such acclaimed, high-profile original programming as The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, True Blood, and, most recently, Boardwalk Empire.

Still, they have spent most of their professional lives dealing with movies.  A production executive at a major studio might deal with two dozen released films a year.  Programmers at HBO (and its sister channel Cinemax) easily deal with over a thousand.  They appraise them, try to understand what people »

Cartoon characters take over Facebook: Our favorite Celeb-Toon picks

4 December 2010 10:22 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Recently, you may (or may not) have noticed Facebook profile photos rapidly changing from that of the human variety to cartoon characters. The reason? Another viral Facebook campaign to raise awareness. Though this one seems a little more fun than posting your bra color or where you like to set your purse in a status update.

This particular fad is an effort to fight child abuse. Linking the two concepts is the idea of bringing back memories of our own childhoods by getting nostalgic. It's a stretch, but we'll go with it.

Facebookers are asked to choose their favorite cartoon character, upload a photo of it as their profile picture and to keep it there through the remainder of the weekend.

All this analyzing in order to choose the perfect cartoon that is simultaneously entertaining, while expressing our inner selves (we picked Buttercup from "The Powerpuff Girls") got us to »

Check These Out: Terrible Films as Criterion Collection Releases

3 December 2010 2:56 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Many film connoisseurs are well aware of the prestigious Criterion Collection, an assortment of cinema's finest and most influential films from prominent filmmakers around the world. While there's always some dissension amongst fans regarding what films deserve the honor being included in the collection (especially Michael Bay's Armageddon, a film that is actually in the collection), there are plenty that will almost never, ever be considered for the prestigious series. Well, a Tumblr called Fake Criterions takes "classic" films like Ghost Dad and Ernest Goes to Jail and imagines what the Criterion DVD cover art might look like. These are just a few of our favorites, and there's more great work featuring The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift and It's Pat: The Movie over at Fake Criterions Tumblr page as well. This venture looks to be a fairly recent creation that only goes back as far as November »

Green Hornet international trailer

Here's the latest international trailer for The Green Hornet, featuring unlikely superhero Seth Rogen as the vigilante crime-fighter with musician-turned-actor Jay Chou as the Asian sidekick who helps him to beat the bad guys (and this is the role which brought Bruce Lee to some of his earliest fame in the 1960s ABC TV adaptation of The Green Hornet).

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry is helming the movie from a screenplay by Rogen himself and long-time real-life sidekick Michel Gondry (Superbad, Pineapple Express). Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious) is producing.

Whatever else this movie turns out to be, the casting of Rogen means it will stand out from the superhero-movie pack one way or another...

Next Halloween is The Thing

23 November 2010 7:39 PM, PST | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

As part of Universal's resurrection of it's catalog of monsters, it's bringing The Thing back to life. The outer-space creature will scare audiences next Halloween in a prequel of the John Carpenter horror classic. The origin story will have American scientists on an expedition to Antartica who stumble across a frozen UFO and, nearby, a frozen "thing." Logically, they decide to crack it out of its ice prison for research purposes when, of course, it starts attacking them.

The Thing reboot was originally supposed to be released April 29 but U will put Fast Five (the fifth The Fast and the Furious movie) in its place.

Universal also announced it will release a sequel to its James Bond-spoof, Johnny English, starring Brit comedic actor Rowan Atkinson. Johnny English Reborn will hit theaters Sept. 16.
