Diesel's Dame Night Out

12 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood superstar Vin Diesel may have a reputation as a hard man - but that doesn't stop him from enjoying the theatre. The XXX hunk was in London and decided to catch a performance of The Breath Of Life starring Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith but wasn't offered the VIP treatment. When Diesel attempted to make a low-key entrance to the show via the stage door he was met with a very English dismissal. The doorman said, "Sorry, mate, not even the Queen of England is allowed to come through here, if she's not in the cast." However, the problems at the door did not leave The Fast And The Furious star in a rage and he thoroughly enjoyed the play - especially Dench's critically acclaimed turn. His spokesperson confirmed that he had sent the acting legend a bouquet the very next day and said, "He loved the play." »

4 December 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Karin Timpone is departing her post as senior vp marketing and communications at Universal Television Distribution to pursue career opportunities outside the company, she said Tuesday. Timpone transitioned from Seagram to Universal in 1998 to lead TV group communications for Universal Television & Networks Group. She was promoted to senior vp for the TV distribution unit in 2000 and added oversight of its research area last year. "I realize how fortunate I am to have combined classic brand marketing and a global TV remit at a Hollywood studio," Timpone said. "I've accomplished my goals here, and I am excited for this development in my career." During her stint, Timpone built global marketing teams, most recently to support Universal's licensing of TV and film to the world's broadcasters for the Law & Order franchise, feature films such as The Mummy Returns and The Fast and the Furious as well as Universal's movie library. »

Diesel Preferred 'XXX' to 'Furious'

5 November 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Vin Diesel turned down the chance to reprise his role in the upcoming The Fast And The Furious sequel - because he didn't like the first film. The Hollywood hardman was offered a reported $20 million to play Dominic Toretto in next year's The Fast And The Furious 2 but declined the offer. And Vin says he decided to abandon the franchise because he's convinced a XXX sequel will be much more successful. When asked why he preferred the secret agent caper to fast cars, the 35-year- old says, "Did you see The Fast And The Furious? Did you see XXX? If you had to choose a franchise, which would you choose? You can't do every franchise. I think that you have to be selective: part of the thing in ensuring you don't get caught up in just being this mono-type actor is having to say no at times, and turning some stuff down. It was a lot of money, but you have to stay true to whatever you're doing." »

Diesel Never Doubted He'd Make Millions

16 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Confident Hollywood star Vin Diesel was always sure that he would make his millions. The XXX star, who was only launched to the a-list last year after the success of The Fast And The Furious, was so convinced that he would become famous that he never bought a lottery ticket - even when he was working as a doorman. He says, "At the end of the night all my bouncing buddies would say, 'I've got to run out and get my lottery ticket and you should too.' I'd say, 'I don't want to win. I don't think it would be fair because I'm going to make millions anyway'." »

Vin Diesel's Diva-Like Behavior

11 September 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel may be receiving a $20 million payday soon - but he's still reportedly acting like a miser. The XXX star, whose salary demands saw him dropped from the sequel to his debut film, displayed diva-like tenancies that would put Jennifer Lopez to shame on a recent night out in Miami, Florida. Having reserved a table at club MYNT, the action hero had his people call the venue to request a roped-off area for the star and his entourage and free drinks for all throughout the night. When the club politely declined the invitation to treat him, the miserable muscleman canceled. »

Daredevil Diesel Terrifies Studio Heads

10 August 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Movie action man Vin Diesel terrified the producers of his new movie XXX because he insisted on trying all his own stunts - including leaping over barns on a motorbike and skydiving. The Fast And The Furious star admits he just couldn't say no when director Rob Cohen offered him the chance to risk life and limb - but they had to film his sequences in secret so as not to make producers worry about the insurance liability. Unfortunately, the stunts were too big to hide and left producers so worried that one refused to visit the set. Diesel giggles, "I think once you adopt the characteristics of the character you get lost in it and you start acting like the character. The studio were constantly holding me back from doing stunts and I would run off and sneak in a stunt and they would find me jumping with the motocross bike. The shoot day would be over and they'd notice these guys putting together these giant jumps for me. One of the executive producers, who was worried about the liabilities, had to leave the set because he couldn't handle the anxiety." »

Diesel Dumps Fast 2

29 April 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Variety reports that Vin Diesel has been scratched from the cast of the upcoming sequel to blockbuster hit The Fast And The Furious. After Diesel allegedly walked away from the bargaining table over money issues, Universal has chosen to focus on co-star Paul Walker, who comes with a much lower price tag. According to Variety, one of the reasons Universal quailed at Diesel's salary demands (reported in the $20 million range) is because they are also shooting the sequel to Pitch Black with him, and a salary bump on the Fast And The Furious sequel would have retroactively bumped his $12.5 million Pitch Black sequel salary into the same range. Universal says the plot will now follow Walker's character, stripped of his badge, who is recruited to infiltrate the Miami street-racing circuit. In the interim, the Pitch Black sequel, The Chronicles Of Riddick, has picked up Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman to do a re-write on the script. Despite Goldsman's recent Oscar, some Pitch Black fans have been mortified, fearing Goldsman's involvement will ruin the series, much like they claim he did with the Batman movie series, for which he wrote or co-wrote the last two instalments. One fan said "Akiva Goldsman did what The Joker could never do. He killed Batman." (This item was compiled by IMDb staff) »

Rodriguez Snubs Sexy Roles

15 March 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The Fast & The Furious star Michelle Rodriguez is turning down sexy roles - because she hates being an object of lust. The tough-talking Latino movie star is urging movie makers to stop sending her scripts which feature her in the shower or having sex - because she has no intention of showing off her shapely body. She says, "I had a couple of offers to do some hot scenes in the shower with some guy, and to make it real hot and sexy. The next thing you know, I'd be the next J.LO or something! I want success the hard way. I don't want people thinking of me sexually. I don't want people to be like, 'God, she's hot looking. Look at her in that shirt with her t**s showing.'" »
