When Paul Walker tragically passed away during the midst of filming on “Furious 7,” it was an emotional time. The loss of the actor hit the tight-knit cast and team behind “The Fast And The Furious” franchise very hard, but not only they did they manage to regroup and finish the film, they gave the actor what many considered an touching send off in the final moments of the movie (see below).

Mechanic: Resurrection Review

27 August 2016 11:45 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Since his breakout role as a modern action icon in The Transporter, Jason Statham has played similarly steely-eyed badasses time and again, including in franchises like The Expendables and The Fast and the Furious. Given Statham’s real-life martial arts skill, rugged good looks and undeniable charisma, it’s no wonder that every studio in Hollywood is dying to build an ongoing series of films around the international superstar. However, as is known to happen in the business, this thirst for long-term profits can often result in films that are so devoid of purpose or substance that they may as well not exist at all.

Take The Mechanic, for example. The 2011 film – itself a remake of a 1972 release starring Charles Bronson (Death Wish) – made just $29 million domestically against a production budget of $40 million, but its $62 million worldwide cume was apparently strong enough for Summit Entertainment to eventually develop a sequel. »

Suicide Squad Review

16 August 2016 12:11 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

As movies based on comics continue to take over the world, those holding the purse strings obviously to capitalize as quickly and completely as possible. This means that we’re going to get some “expansion” titles (like Guardians of the Galaxy) that feature characters that aren’t as well known to the masses.

This leads to a lot of problems when it comes to working through the plot and characters, and Suicide Squad gets almost every decision wrong.

The film builds its own theory at you, while trying to simultaneously exist as that theory, with elusive, government pawn manipulator Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) sharing notes on the criminals she wants to have on hand in case the next Superman isn’t so friendly. This plays out as a 15-minute highlight reel that gives us our characters.

Fast 8 Photo Unites the Cast, Trailer Coming in December

13 August 2016 3:35 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

It has been an intense and interesting week for the cast and crew of Fast and Furious 8. The usually positive and high-spirited Dwayne Johnson publicly announced his disgust at a few certain cast members, calling them 'Candy Asses'. And it set off a firestorm of speculation about whom he might actually be talking about. In light of that, the production team has now called an end to their 'Fast Friday' initiative, which was bringing new photos and video every Friday from the production.

It doesn't appear that the sequel has wrapped. But a lengthy message was posted on the movie's official Facebook. It was accompanied with a new photo of the entire cast, gathered together. Interesting to note, Dwayne Johnson has been moved all the way down to the end of the cast picture, and he is standing next to Scott Eastwood, whom many believed was one of the 'Candy »

With Star Trek Beyond making less money than its previous two movies week to week so far, and the lack of enthusiasm for the franchise’s 50 year anniversary, Oli and Luke argue that Star Trek needs a super producer in the vein of Kevin Feige or Kathleen Kennedy to properly exploit Paramount’s most under-used property.

Star Trek Beyond continued the rebooted franchise’s string of rather rubbish villains, with Idris Elba’s Krall being one of the weakest parts of the movie.

But Oli reckons the parts are there to turn Beyond into a Heart of Darkness-style journey into Kirk’s psyche…with Krall as the story’s Colonel Kurtz.

Awesome Cars From The Movies That You Can Actually Buy

8 August 2016 9:00 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

We’d all love to have our own Batmobile or Delorean, but the chances of owning either are slim to zero. Well, we’ve been thinking about impressive cars from the film and TV industry we would have a chance of owning. The results of our extensive research are impressive. No, really.

So, first up, and while the film may be set in the future, you can still actually own one of the cars featured in the 2014 remake of the classic 80s action movie, Robocop. The car is the Kia Optima and was featured in the film as lead character Alex Murphy’s family car of choice. The one used in the film is indeed a heavily modified version of the 2011 model, but pretty cool that you can actually go out and buy the thing nonetheless. You can read a full review for Kia Optima at the end of the link. »

Simon Pegg explains Carol Marcus’ absence in Star Trek Beyond

7 August 2016 4:37 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise reunited last month for the third entry in Paramount’s rebooted Star Trek series, Star Trek Beyond, although their was one noticeable absentee: Kirk’s old flame Carol Marcus, played by Alice Eve in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.

Speaking to io9, screenwriter and star Simon Pegg has explained why they decided not to include the character in Beyond, stating that:

“We thought rather than have Carol Marcus be not used to a reasonable capacity, let’s just not include her, have her be alive, in canon, and be ready to come back at any time… I think we had some lines to explain her absence in one of the initial drafts that had her going off to start work on the Genesis project and do sort of very, very early research on that, but it didn’t make it into the final cut. »

The Rock Becomes a Soccer Mom in Latest Fast 8 Preview

5 August 2016 1:26 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

If you've been following the production of Fast and Furious 8 for the past few months, you'll surely know that the end of the work week has been dubbed Fast Friday. You never know what to expect in these videos, which have showcased everything from an insane parking garage stunt in Cleveland, to ice racing in Iceland and even Vin Diesel's daughter laying down the law on set. This week's video showcases what director F. Gary Gray calls one of his favorite scenes in the movie, featuring Dwayne Johnson performing an iconic and important dance known as the Haka.

Universal Pictures debuted this video through their social media channels today, which is one of the few Fast Friday videos that doesn't feature any sort of car action. Instead, the scene focuses on Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs, who is watching his young daughter's soccer game. The actor explains that, since the score is tied, »

Helen Mirren Arrives in New Fast and Furious 8 Set Photo

3 August 2016 11:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in June, Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren confirmed she had joined the cast of Fast and Furious 8, which came about after she commented last year that she wants to play a "mad driver" in a Fast & Furious movie. Unfortunately, the actress won't be doing any actual driving in the movie. And she'll only be on the set for one day. It seems that day has already come, with franchise star Vin Diesel sharing our first look at Helen Mirren on the set of Fast and Furious 8.

Vin Diesel revealed on Instagram yesterday that it was an "honor and joy" to work with Helen Mirren, although no details were given for her role. The photo shows Vin Diesel sporting a traditional Fast & Furious look with a sleeveless shirt, while Helen Mirren is dressed far more elegant. Fast 8 Set Video Has the Rock Leading a Prison Riot

1 August 2016 11:17 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

A few weeks ago, Fast and Furious 8 star Dwayne Johnson released a new photo from the set that reveals his character Hobbs will be spending some time in prison. The actor was seen wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and shackles, but we didn't get any details about why Hobbs was being put behind bars. Regardless of his crime, we learned over the weekend that Hobbs will be breaking out, thanks to new videos and photos courtesy of Dwayne Johnson.

Fans first met Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs in Fast Five, an agent with the Diplomatic Security Service (Dss), who tracks down Dom (Vin Diesel) and his crew. In Fast & Furious 6, he sought out Dom's help in bringing down Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) and he returned in last year's blockbuster Furious 7. While we don't know exactly why Hobbs is thrown behind bars in Fast 8, it's possible that this »

Star Trek Beyond crosses $160 million

1 August 2016 5:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The third outing for the rebooted Star Trek franchise couldn’t quite match up to Jason Bourne’s debut, and its drop off could spell trouble.

Although the film took second place in the weekend box office war, Star Trek Beyond dropped 59.9% to earn $24 million domestically – the biggest drop-off of the rebooted franchise so far. Its domestic total now sits at $105 million. Both Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness had hit $146 million by its second week, which could show there is declining interest in the series.

The film has opened in many of its international territories – but not China – and has a worldwide total of $160 million. Star Trek earned $385 million back in 2009, and Star Trek Into Darkness ended on $467 million.

Star Trek 4 has already been announced, but the decline in box office could mean the production won’t be given $180 million this time around.
