This a great and magnificent production from Globo TV. A very well detailed mini-series(it is not a "telenovela")about the first century of Brazilian when life was very difficult for both the natives and the Portuguese pioneer colonizers. A script about colonization with many thrilling parallel plots overlapping each other.

Don't be fooled by the slow pace that tries to match the same slow paced life of the time.

Attention to detail is flawless hence the excellent art direction, costume design and set decoration.

Direction is coherent and firm with the actors expressing the overwhelming magnitude of the surrounding Atlantic Jungle.

A Vivid Historical Telenovela
FafaSays5 January 2003
À MURALHA (The Wall) first aired in Brazil to commemorate the country's 500-year anniversary. Based on a novel by Dinah Silveira de Queiroz, it is about Portugal's colonization of Brazil in the 18th century.

Stories of different characters include: A young Indian girl who is captured and enslaved, a Portuguese family living in Brazil, a young Portuguese girl who makes the rough journey to Brazil to marry the son of a Portuguese family, and a young Jewish girl running away from religious persecution but is forced to marry a fanatic to save her imprisoned father.

During the making of this telenovela, the director used real Indians (also known as Mestizos) as extras in order to make the scenes realistic. In addition to the topic about how the colonials adjusted to life in Brazil, the telenovela focuses on the injustices and treatment of the Mestizos, women, and Jews. It's a gripping story.

If you are interested in Brazil's history and have a strong stomach for certain graphic scenes (there's a lot of violence and abuse), this is a good novela to watch.

How can anything be so awful?

This mini series really sucks! I've never seen a "thing" so terrible as it is. All the actors act like their dead: they don't do anything! If the history of Brazil was something like this mini series show, people didn't do anything as kill other people. I don't know how something like this is on air! NOTE: I'm sorry about my English.
