Adultery, murder, sorcery, revenge, violence, infanticide in the Pyrénnées piedmond. This is 99 % pure fiction, loosely weaved on a pair or two of historic facts. Remains a proud, arrogant and violent Gaston Phoebus, and some princesses in great costumes. This does not justify 6 hours where 2 would have been largely enough. The royal court is distorted as a bunch of greedy fools, and the church as a lair of accommodating sophists. In fact, apart Poebus and a pair of his friends, everybody in this story is weak and failed. The way Phoebus get a child from a woman he hates, the way he get closer to the same women after killing their son, and the way both react afterward are totally unrealistic. Particularly Agnès who suddenly acts unlike her constant 20 or so years old goal. Actors game is poor, particularly Nicole Garcia's (Agnès de Navarre). Music is irritating. Suggested age : 16+
