Nicole Braves the Cold

16 December 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nicole Kidman wowed a chilly New York on Monday night by dashing straight from the airport to the premiere of Gangs Of New York. The actress jetted in for the gala direct from Romania, where she has just finished filming Cold Mountain, and rather than dressing up to shield herself from the cold, she wore a sexy black outfit, complete with knee-high boots. The Aussie actress admitted that she didn't think it was that cold, "It's colder there than it is here. This is warm, balmy compared to Romania." And, the The Others star adds she had no hesitation about rushing to the premiere, "I've heard this film is magnificent. I wouldn't have missed it for the world." Meanwhile, U2 performed their theme from the movie at the post premiere party. »

Kidman's Embarrassment Over Cruise

31 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The Others beauty Nicole Kidman failed to hide her embarrassment when she met her future husband Tom Cruise for the first time. The Australian star, who first encountered the Minority Report actor at a meeting to discuss Days Of Thunder, did not know where to look when she realised she was considerably taller than tiny Tom. She says, "When Tom stood up and we shook hands, I found I was looking down at him. It was terrifically embarrassing to learn I was at least a couple of inches taller. I knew it wouldn't do, having the girlfriend tower over the macho race car driver." However, Tom's reaction was something altogether different. He says, "My first reaction to meeting Nic was pure lust. It was totally physical. I thought she was amazingly sexy and stunning." Nicole soon overcame any reservations she had about Tom's lack of height when they went on a date. She says, "We went to the movies and he was wearing a T-shirt and I took one look at his biceps and I could not watch the movie. I was a goner after that." »

Nicole: Not Ready to Date Yet

28 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Nicole Kidman has lashed out at reports she is dating screen hunks Vin Diesel, Tobey Maguire and Russell Crowe - because she is not ready to start a romantic relationship. The Others starlet, 35, is still recovering from her shock split from husband of 10 years Tom Cruise in February last year and insists she does not feel ready to date anyone yet. Nicole told a British magazine journalist, "I'm not dating anyone. Look at me, I sit here in front of you wearing a white dress and right now I am virginal! I've got to get out there and join the dating game at some stage but it's not happening yet. I'd love to be swept off my feet by love, it would be really nice." The Australian beauty admits she regrets lamenting about her dateless state at this year's Oscars. Nicole says, "I made a big mistake before I went to the Oscars this year of publicly saying I didn't have a date. And I got a lot of people from around the world offering to come with me, which was very sweet, but they were complete strangers. Besides, I've got my hands full with two children and right now, I'm having a love affair with them." »

Kidman: I Was Awful in 'The Others'

17 October 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood stunner Nicole Kidman was convinced acclaimed horror film The Others would flop - because she "hated" her performance in it. Kidman felt psychically sick after seeing the hit 2001 film because she was so astounded at her bad acting - and admits she finds it difficult to watch any of her work on the big screen. She candidly reveals, "I can't bear to see myself on screen. And I hated myself in The Others. Absolutely hated it. I went to see it with my sister Antonia and when I walked out I was thinking, 'Oh my God, what have I done?' I felt sick and my sister had to take me back to my hotel because I was so ill. I was nauseous for ages and was so upset I went to bed. I really shouldn't be saying this because I'm really exposing all my insecurities. But I'm not afraid to admit it. I have been known to fly out of the country to avoid screenings!" »

'Darkness' lights up Spain

16 October 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

MADRID -- Jaume Balaguero's thriller Darkness has displaced Pedro Almodovar's Talk to Her as the Spanish film with the highest-grossing opening weekend in its home territory so far this year, raking in about €1.16 million ($1.14 million) in its first three days of release, on 276 prints. Much anticipated because of its $12 million budget and a rare presale to Miramax, Darkness is Balaguero's second feature after 1999's multiple award-winning Los Sin Nombre (The Nameless) and his first English-language film. Talk to Her grossed $971,187 in its first weekend. The opening of Darkness, however, trailed Alejandro Amenabar's ghost story The Others -- also presold to Miramax -- which opened last year with more than $3 million. Darkness, starring Anna Paquin, Lena Olin, Iain Glen and Fele Martinez, had its world premiere Oct. 3 at the Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia. »

27 July 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood star Nicole Kidman is to feature in a Christmas advertising campaign for a Spanish department store. Nicole, who last year was divorced from Hollywood star Tom Cruise, will be paid a six-figure sum to star in two television adverts for the chain, called El Corte. The ads will be directed by Alejandro Amenabar, who also directed Nicole in the horror film The Others. But Birthday Girl beauty Nicole is not the first big name Hollywood star to appear in an ad campaign for El Corte. A source says, "The store usually manages to get a big name to front its TV ads and George Clooney and Sharon Stone have appeared in previous ones." »

Stalker Sues Nicole Kidman

8 May 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nicole Kidman is being sued for $15 million - by a man accused of stalking her. Matthew Hooker - who was last year ordered to stay away from the actress for three years after visiting her home and sending her poetry - has launched the multimillion dollar lawsuit out of fury for the star. Hooker - who insists he is not a stalker, but a "handsome, cultured and civilized man" - claims Kidman accused him of harassing her "for the express purpose of providing defendants with publicity for the actress Kidman and the two films Moulin Rouge and The Others". On top of the $15 million in damages, Hooker is demanding "all of the gross receipt" from Moulin Rouge and The Others. Should he win the unlikely case, Hooker plans to use the cash to fund his plans to run for the office of President of the United States of America in 2004. »

Cruise Snubs Oscars To Avoid Nicole

8 March 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Tom Cruise is reportedly snubbing the Oscars - because ex-wife Nicole Kidman will be the star of the show. Cruise was expected to attend the Academy Awards with lover Penélope Cruz. But he has now told organizers he won't make the glittering night at Hollywood's Kodak Theater on March 24th, where Nicole is up for Best Actress for her role in Moulin Rouge. According to Britain's The Sun newspaper, a source close to the actor says, "He's aware the Oscars are really going to be Nicole's night. He doesn't want to get into any embarrassing situations by going with Penelope. The cameras would zoom in on him if Nicole wins and he doesn't want that publicity. He is also making sure Penelope doesn't feel uncomfortable being around his ex." Nicole's career has soared since she split from Cruise, her husband of 11 years, last year. She has already picked up a Golden Globe for her role in Baz Luhrmann's high-octane musical and has also garnered a string of nominations for her lead in spooky chiller The Others. But Nicole won't be walking up the famed red carpet with a man on Oscars night - she's expected to take her sister Antonia with her. »

Nicole Kidman Enjoys Success While It Lasts

22 January 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Nicole Kidman is so ecstatic about her many recent movie successes that she's confident she'll never have another year so good. Redhead Kidman was nominated for two Golden Globe awards for roles in The Others and Moulin Rouge and ultimately won the latter at Sunday's ceremony. She has also won rave reviews of both performances from critics around the world. But the Kidman, who flew in to California from Sweden - where's making the new movie Dogville - for the awards, is certain the phenomenal success will not last for much longer. She says, "I don't think I'll have a year like this again. I never expected this and it's once in a lifetime. I'm just trying to smell the roses and keep aware of how special this time is." »
