Storyline

Showing the interior of a kitchen, with the cook trying to embrance and kiss the maid, who drops the dishes and runs away as she hears the proprietor approaching. The cook hides in a cupboard, discovered by the manager, who squeezes the door of the cupboard, thereby cutting off the head which is projecting. At this he is horrified and places the head on a table, where it starts grinning at him. He takes the head and throws it into the cupboard, and out walks the cook, who proceeds to literally wipe the floor with his tormentor. Cook's Revenge, The (1900)

*** (out of 4)

aka La Vengeance du gate-sauce

Delightful film from Melies has a cook's assistant dropping a pan, which sets off the owner. The owner accidentally cuts off the cook's head and is in a mad dash to hide it but the head keeps coming back. This is another classic from the director as the special effects are top notch and the overall story is quite good. There are several decapitations shown and the highlight has to be the cook's revenge when he goes crazy and throws the owner's body around the shop. There are plenty of laughs throughout.
