Eight Girls In A Barrel (1900)

aka Le Tonneau des Danaides
George Melies plays a magician who puts a barrel up on a platform and then stuffs eight girls inside of it. The trick being done here is a popular one that several magicians have used but it doesn't quite pay off here because the edits are easy to spot so this takes away a lot of the magic that the film is going for. The film just offers this trick and doesn't go for any laughs so in the end this comes off as middle ground for the director. Some might find it amusing but there are better films out there from this director.
