A public hospital in Buenos Aires is the setting for this film, written and directed by Roberto Maiocco. The director was a doctor himself before turning to films. As such, one gets an inside view of what really goes on in a poorly maintained facility where even the essentials are in short supply.
A group of residents are seen in one round of visiting with the chief of the ward. An ambitious Dr. Blanco, a second year intern, seems to be out of place in the group. He is well groomed, knowledgeable, and ambitious. He is seen flattering the chief. At stake there is a prestigious medical conference to be held in Montreal, obviously with a recommendation from the head of the pavilion. In contrast, Ignacio, a first year resident, is the opposite of Blanco. He is truly a man well suited to the job. What's more, Ignacio has a heart, something that in a place like this hospital, almost in ruins, is incredible to find.
The film suffers from an inconsistency of facts. Take the little boy, the son of Lorenzo, an AIDS patient, who comes and goes as he wishes without anyone objecting to letting the kid into that environment, let alone he rides alone in taxis in the middle of the night. The best thing in the film is Pablo Echarri who is seen as Ignacio. He is a real man who is exactly what one wants to find in a place like this. Lito Cruz, Tony Lestingui, Walter Santana and the rest of the supporting cast do a credible job for the director.
