Dan Gutman.s The Genius Files is the latest hit teen-lit series that will be making the leap from the page to the screen as Hollywood continues to scratch the itch triggered by the financial successes of The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games. Part Spy Kids, part James Bond, the books revolve around Coke and Pepsi McDonald, 12-year-old twins who are part of an extremely secret government program that relies on young masterminds to help solve world-threatening problems. THR reports that up-and-coming commercial director Robert Rugan has just been hired by Warner Bros. to bang out the screenplay for the first installment of Genius Files on screen, with an eye toward handing the script off to someone else to direct. The first Genius Files book came out in January 2011. One more followed and a third is due in 2013, meaning Warner has material to create a franchise if audiences respond »
Warner Bros. is adapting the popular children’s book series The Genius Files (written by Dan Gutman) into a possible big-budget franchise. They’ve hired commercial director Robert Rugan to write the screenplay, although currently there’s no plans for him to direct the project should it get the greenlight.
THR describes the plot:
“[The Genius Files] revolves around 12-year-old twins who are recruited to be part of a secret government experiment that uses young geniuses to solve complex national problems. The pair must fight for their lives while on a road trip with their family.”
They solve complex national problems? Like the fiscal cliff and gun control? Cool! Er, what’s that?…. ohhh, you mean they’re like Spy Kids, fighting Alan Cumming and stop-motion monsters? That’s cool too, I guess.

Alan Cumming, the Scottish stage and screen star best known to audiences as a scene-stealing supporting player (he's appeared in everything from the "Spy Kids" franchise to Cher's latest vehicle "Burlesque" and the hit CBS TV series "The Good Wife"), takes center stage in "Any Day Now," a powerful indie that's won 10 audience awards on the festival circuit, including in Seattle and Chicago. Based on a true story and directed with restraint by Travis Fine (he helmed the similarly affecting drama "The Space Between" starring Melissa Leo), "Any Day Now" centers on Rudy (Cumming) and Paul (Garret Dillahunt), a mismatched gay couple in the '70s who take in a boy with Down syndrome (Isaac Leyva) after he's abandoned by his junkie mother living next door. When their living arrangement comes to the attention of authorities, the two find themselves at the center of a nasty custody battle mired in. »

Overnight Productions, the producers of Robert Rodriguez's 2010 Grindhouse spin-off Machete, has filed a $2 million lawsuit against Rodriguez's Quick Draw Productions that could ultimately block the release of the upcoming sequel Machete Kills. According to Deadline, "Overnight claims that... they were not provided with Texas tax credit information as required under the agreement with Rodriguez's company [and] defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel."
Filming is already complete on the sequel, which was picked up for distribution by Open Road Films just last month and sees Danny Trejo returning as the hard-as-nails former Mexican Federale in order to stop an arms dealer from launching a deadly weapon into space. Jessica Alba (Sin City) and Michelle Rodriguez (The Fast and the Furious) also reprise their roles from the original, while »
Ok, so I’m not totally sure what to make of this Bad Kids Go To Hell movie just yet. We were sent the trailer via email; its got a catchy title, but is it horror? Do I post about it on the site? Or throw it under the “Beyond Fright” banner? At first glance of the following trailer, it looks like the filmmaker’s are attempting to do a modern day version of The Breakfast Club; hell they even have Judd Nelson in there in one of the adult roles. But then it looks like it takes a rather dark turn. Did they conjure up a nasty entity? Or is one of them killing the rest? Regardless, I’m not sure how to classify this flick but the press release under this video calls it The Grudge meets The Breakfast Club. So I figured it warranted a view. Check »

Update: George Clooney may enter alien territory with Disney's 1952. The actor-writer-producer is in talks to star in Brad Bird's extraterrestrial movie which is said to be kind of like Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Clooney has taken on many roles in the past -- including Spy Kids 3D -- but guy who makes contact with extraterrestrials is missing from his resume. He did star in Solaris, about a planet reading and messing with the minds of the astronauts and scientists studying it -- but that's not exactly the same thing. "Lost" creator and Damon Lindelof (Cowboys & Aliens, Prometheus) and Jeff Jensen, who I believe is the Entertainment Weekly writer who also wrote the X-Men spinoff comic book "X-Factor".
May 4, 2012 - Fresh off the success of directing his first live-action film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird will helm 1952 for Disney. The project from "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof is »

Alexa Vega has revealed via her Instagram account the first official image of her character Killjoy in the forthcoming Robert Rodriguez directed sequel Machete Kills. Alexa Vega is all grown up -- like, all the way grown up. The actress, best known for her pre-pubescent turn in the "Spy Kids" film series has reunited with director Robert Rodriguez for a more grown up role.
Vega stars in "Machete Kills," the sequel to Rodriguez' 2010 action exploitation film, "Machete." This time, instead of the young daughter of espionage agents, Rodriguez cast Alexa as KillJoy, "bodyguard of a whore house."
Alexa tells THR she's kept in touch with Rodriguez since the first "Spy Kids" film. "One day he told me, 'I have a role for you, but I don't know if you're ready to do this,'" she says.
Maybe what Rodriguez should have been thinking about is whether the world is ready for Alexa Vega's clevage. The actress posted a photo to Twitter of an official film still, printed by Rolling Stone. In the photo, Alexa »

Alexa Vega is determined to show she's not a kid anymore. Starring in the 2001 movie Spy Kids alongside Hollywood heavyweights Antonio Banderas, Teri Hatcher and Alan Cummings, Vega is now 24 years old and ready to flaunt her sexuality on the big screen.
Following in the footsteps of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, Vega has been posting a slew of sexy shots of herself on Twitter but it was the one of her in nothing but a bra and black leather chaps that caught the media's attention. The scantily-clad ensemble is for her new movie Machete Kills.

Robert Rodriguez gave Alexa Vega her breakout role in "Spy Kids" when the actress was 12 years-old, and now that she's 24, the director is giving her the opportunity to show off her more—umm—adult side.
Check out the picture after the jump!
Vega plays a character named Killjoy, and from the looks of the photo, it sounds like a fitting moniker.
"Machete Kills" continues the adventure of the former Mexican federale played by Danny Trejo. This time around, the U.S. government and the president, played by professional mess Charlie Sheen, are turning to Machete for help to bring down a arms dealer, played by Mel Gibson, who plans on launching a missile attack.

Danny Trejo reprises his eponymous leading role, and after getting a great first official image of Trejo alongside Amber Heard last month, Alexa Vega has now put out our first official image of her in the film through Twitter.
“Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.”
Vega has of course worked with Rodriguez in the past, starring in all four of the Spy Kids films to date, and it’s easy to see that she’s very much grown up here in the image below, »
