Harald Zwart to direct Keanu Reeves in action film Rally Car

Karate Kid director Harald Zwart has signed on to direct the upcoming action film Rally Car from Chinese production companies Fundamental Films and Company Films.

The project has been written by Jeremy Lott (Spy Kids) and will star Keanu Reeves (John Wick) as “a hot shot former champion Nascar driver who doesn’t want to believe his glory days are behind him. When his professional and personal life begin to spiral out of control, he’s forced to take part in a high stakes international rally race across the face of China, with a young Chinese girl as his co-driver, in order to prove he’s still the accomplished racer he thinks he is.”

‘The Karate Kid’ director set to helm Keanu Reeves’ ‘Rally Car’

Deadline are reporting that Harald Zwart, who most recently took on The Karate Kid remake, is all set to direct Keanu Reeves in the upcoming U.S.-China collaboration Rally Car.

The story, according to the website, ‘centers on a hot-shot former champion Nascar driver (Reeves) who doesn’t want to believe his glory days are behind him. When his professional and personal life begin to spiral out of control, he’s forced to take part in a high-stakes international rally race across the face of China, with a young Chinese girl as his co-driver, in order to prove he’s still the badass racer he thinks he is.’

The company behind the movie, Fundamental Films, are taking the project to the European Film Market in Berlin next week. The market runs alongside the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale), which kicks off on February 11th.

Reeves wil co-produce the film.

China’s Fundamental Films and Company Films have brought on The Karate Kid (2010) director to helm the Keanu Reeves action film that Im Global will introduce to Berlin buyers.

Jeremy Lott of Spy Kids fame wrote the screenplay to Rally Car based on a treatment by Stephen Hamel about a former Nascar champion who enters a race across China with a female Chinese co-driver to prove he still has the magic.

Reeves and Hamel will produce through their Company Films label alongside chairman Mark Gao and president Gregory Ouanhon of the project’s financier, Fundamental Films. CAA represents Us rights.

Rally Car marks the second collaboration between Fundamental and Company Films following Replicas, which also stars Reeves and is based on a treatment by Hamel. »

Chinese producer Fundamental Films and Company Films have tapped “Karate Kid” director Harald Zwart to direct their upcoming action film “Rally Car,” starring Keanu Reeves.

Jeremy Lott (“Spy Kids”) has written the script, which is based on a treatment by Stephen Hamel. Reeves and Hamel will produce under their Company Films banner, along with Fundamental Films Chairman Mark Gao and President Gregory Ouanhon, while Gary Glushon will executive produce.

Fundamental Films is financing the project, with Im Global handling international sales and introducing the film to buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market next week.  CAA is representing the U.S. rights.

"The Karate Kid" remake director Harald Zwart has been set to helm Fundamental Films and Company Films' action film "Rally Car" starring Keanu Reeves.

Reeves will portray a hot shot former champion Nascar driver who doesn't want to believe his glory days are behind him even as his life begins to spiral out of control.

He's soon forced to take part in a high stakes international rally race across the face of China, with a young Chinese girl as his co-driver, to prove he's still the racer he thinks he is.

Jeremy Lott ("Spy Kids") penned the script based on a treatment by Stephen Hamel. Reeves, Hamel, Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon will produce. Much of the same team, including Reeves and Hamel, are behind another film entitled "Replicas" which is already completed.

Actor Danny Trejo took to his personal Twitter account to upload a picture of DC Comics notorious bounty hunter, Lobo, teasing fans that he is possibly lobbying for the role. Trejo tweeted the following:

"First rule of hunting, Super Dupe. Make the target come to you. @DCComics."

Attached was a picture from the waste down of Lobo from a comic book holding a gun in one hand and a severed head in the other.
