A murder in Buenos Aires, 2 April 2006

This film bears the same name as Francisco Lombardi's excellent Peruvian movie. That's all the similarity, because this Argentine film depicts a crime and its investigation. The movie credits two persons with the direction: Beda Ocampo Feijoo and Maria Cecilia Barreras.

The opening scenes take us on trip along the river to a fashionable district where the owner of a magazine is surprised in the bathroom and shot to death. Just as the police detective in charge of the investigation arrive, so does the lawyer of the publication, and the brother of the victim. The inspector questions the men, but releases them.

Right after that, the magazine is in turmoil. Clara, who stands to lose the job, along with the other journalists, seeks the lawyer to offer her help in whatever she might be useful, something that will play in the plot, later on. The investigation into the murder of the wealthy man opens a can of worms as many people stand to gain by the disappearance of Abelardo. In a way, fans of this genre will probably figure out the outcome by the clues one is given at the beginning.

The best thing in the film is Luis Luque, who makes an impressive, and cool detective. Malena Soldan, Mauricio Dayub, Luis Brandoni, Alejandra Flechner and Gaston Pauls do good work among the supporting players.

A Stylish and Slick Murder Mystery, 27 March 2005

"What Your Eyes Don't See" is a stylish and slick murder mystery set in the magazine publishing world of Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital city. It does a first-rate job of showing many of the local sights – Teatro Colon, Puerto Madero, Recoleta Cemetery, and the Tigre Delta, among others – and the actors are handsome and competent as they go through their paces showing us who killed the story's victims and why.

The movie's central character is a world-weary detective with the local homicide squad who is full of colorful quirks. Like Telly Savalas's Kojack, for example, this fellow sports a lollipop. It leaves you wondering if "What Your Eyes Don't See" is one entry in a recurring series on Argentine television.

awful imitation of film noir, 16 May 2005

Argentinian film that comes off as a bad parody of some sold school noir. Ojos Que No Ven, is as a film an utter failure, with characters as flawed as a Chinese hot Luois Vutton bag purchased in the village. The funniest part of it is the detective who totally rips Columbo off and goes for his smoke in my eyes grin, chain smokes and pretends he is a badass while slowly solving a generic crime that involves all the usual suspects, to that add terrible acting, and you get something really, really, really unoriginal. This should be avoided and never mistaken with the Peruvian film firected by the always reliable Francisco Lombardi, whos Ojos QUe No Ven is not only more intelligent but real.
