What does it take to succeed in a man’s world? A Los Angeles Film Festival panel of women cinematographers ivealed what it took to make it to the top of a competitive industry.

1. A shot of LSD. Cinema verite shooter Joan Churchill (“Last Days in Vietnam”) started out by recovering from an eight-hour acid trip, she admitted, to shoot some of the most iconic images from the Rolling Stones Altamont doc, “Gimme Shelter.” That led to the assignment of shooting the Louds in PBS’s “An American Family.” A documentary cameraperson, often working with a hand-held camera and natural light, has to have “people skills,” she said. “You have to be interested in your subjects.” When she moved to London, she couldn’t get work until she joined the Asc—and became its first woman member. Her membership card read: “Lady Cameraman.”

Survivor Alum Michael Skupin to Stand Trial on Child Pornography Charges

Former Survivor contestant Michael Skupin will stand trial in Minnesota on child pornography and other charges, the Associated Press reports. A judge determined there was enough evidence for him to stand trial in Oakland County. Skupin was arrested in February after officials said they discovered child pornography on Skupin's laptop while they were investigating an alleged ponzy scheme. Skupin has denied the charges, saying in an exclusive statement to People in February that he was "wrongfully accused." "My whole life has been kids: my kids, my family and anyone who ever needed help in any way," he said in the statement. »

Survivor Alum Michael Skupin Charged with Child Pornography and Racketeering

Former Survivor contestant Michael Skupin is facing 11 criminal charges, including possession of child pornography and racketeering, the Michigan Attorney General's office announced Friday. An investigation into Skupin began after people who say they were victims of an alleged Ponzi scheme he ran contacted a local newspaper. The alleged victims say they made $10,000 investments to a gifting scheme called Pay It Forward, in which their donations cycled through a chart of investors, until they were paid by new investors' money. The alleged scheme was discovered when the investors say they lost all of their money after no new people were brought into the group. »
