This is a strange movie about a piano possessed by demons, brought out of storage by the townsfolk of Ludlow for the 200 year anniversary of the town's founding. The back story is something like John Carpenter's THE FOG; the town founder, Mr. Ludlow himself, was a bit of a sadist, and was eventually arrested and executed. Two hundred years later, the piano is played, demons start appearing, and the descendants of Ludlow's enemies are killed off, one by one.
Those who are into larger-budget or more popular works will hate THE DEMONS OF LUDLOW for a lot of reasons, including the poor acting, the predictable plot line, and the things-on-strings approach to special effects. This is not a well-made movie on any level. Nevertheless, there is a lot of entertainment value to be found with this one. The music is all done on someone's electronic keyboard and it does add to the mood of the movie, even if it is somewhat piercing. The goofy radioactive green hand that occasionally appeared out of nowhere was cool. Paul Von Hausen's role as the preacher trying to stop the murders was fun to watch simply because he took it very seriously yet could not act his way past Keanu Reeves.
For anyone interested in seeing this surreal cinematic turkey, you could probably find it online for free. It is also included with the "Chilling Classics" 50 movie boxed set (note, however, that this is hard to consider a classic), along with, very likely, other multi-movie compilations. It has apparently been released on an individual DVD, although whether or not the picture and sound quality is any better than it is in its cheaper forms. Either way, this movie does not stand out as a must-see, just worth seeing if you come across it.
