Storyline

Blair Witch Project meets Survivor... Six contestants, armed only with cameras and ghost hunting equipment explore purportedly haunted places in order to determine if supernatural activity is present. They must complete dares in order to win cash prizes. If they fail, they are eliminated. Sound easy? "Fear" is never that simple, especially when you factor in those disembodied footfalls, and shadows that only appear on infrared. Reality TV at its most frightening. Written by TheGods

Trivia

Most of the locations chosen for episodes were given fictitious names out of respect to the communities in which they were located and owners of the properties. The statements made on the MTV site from which the contestants read were most often embellished or completely fabricated as part of the atmosphere to increase their fear in an unfamiliar environment. It has also been stated that no one actually ever died in many of the actual locations chosen for filming and, before episodes were filmed, no supernatural occurrences were ever reported. Locations were chosen simply for their 'creepy look'. See more »

Great Stuff

I loved MTVs Fear. I don't care if it was real or not. And I don't care if it ripped off the Blair Witch Project. For some reason after 9-11, my interest in things that had previously scared me began to grow, from roller coasters to scary movies. Sadly the "scary movie" as such is in terrible shape. If I see one more ghost that can't rest until it's murder is solved, I'm going to strangle it myself.

But MTVs Fear always gave me the chills. They found atmospheric locations with legitimately creepy vibes and proceed to creep the kids out who played the game. Ostensibly there was no cameraman or crew except the players of the game. (Each participant wore a helmet that filmed both what they were viewing and their reaction to it.)

The episode where the girl goes to the children's ward of a hospital and a ball moves across the floor in a "U" shaped path scared the crap out of me. After some episodes I would walk around my place and turn every light on. Soooo creepy.
