Did You Know?

The insect, which this film is about; 'Phylomenescus Cerebus' - the African Armadillo Bug', does not exist. When Dr. Cahill's sitting in, on the 1st grader's presentation, and rifles through a book on insects, the picture shown, is, in fact a Madagascar Cockroach (which the book says they're 'frequently mistaken for').See more »

A movie idea which only got better the 2nd time, 6 October 2016
Author: U.N. Owen from NYC

While watching They Nest - a definitely amiable, good-natured ''invasion' flick, I was struck by how similar it is - both in style - something is invading (literally) the people of a small place (in They Nest, an island community), and, they're using humans to lay their ...whatever, with the ultimate goal of taking over - with a film I really liked; _Slither (2006)_ (qv).

I wouldn't say I loved this film, but, at first, I thought this film came after Slither, but, it's actually, the other-way-round.

If the makers of Slither saw this, and decided to take the premise even further, I think they did a great job.

The material - here - is a horror-film, but, it's played with a bit of a jokey-quality, and the performances - by Thomas Calabro, Dean Stockwell, John Savage, and the lovely Kristen Dalton (we need to see more of her), are all up-to-snuff.

If you're one of those (like me), who's really not into realistic, super-graphic stuff, you'll appreciate this, as it's more of the stuff that many of us are squeamish about; bugs (ewww!), and even just seeing them squished can be 'horror' enough (heck; I really thought the hamster did a great acting job - running through his maze, trying to avoid the bugs, and then - cornered, and you can really see the fear over the little- guy's face, especially when he turns away, hoping they wont find him).

All-in-all, They Nest is an above-average 'b'-film, and definitely enjoyable.
