Storyline

While standing in the middle of the street contemplating the motto on a quarter, Robert is killed by an on-coming SUV. In the waiting room of the afterlife, a punctilious clerk, Gil, pulls up Robert's record on the computer and tells the young man that he's damned. Lots of little bad things have added up, and his score is negative. Robert bolts back to earth, with Gil and his colleagues in hot pursuit. Robert visits his girlfriend, drinks a smoothie with his dad, foils a robbery, and dances. His positive points are accumulating as Gil (and death) close in. Is it up or down for our Bobby? Little things can mean a lot. Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

Quotes

Robert: Honey, I'm going to be going away for a little while.
Ashley: [sleepily] Okay.
Robert: Well a long while. Forever really... um... but we'll see each other again... I... I guess.
[pause]
Robert: Actually, that's not true. You see I, I didn't get enough points and I bought chocolate for the chocolate and I never danced and now they're going to take me away and I really don't think you'll be joining me in Hell, so... I think we might want to see other people.

Best Short at Sundance
17 February 2000 | by (Utah, USA) – See all my reviews

Of the 30 shorts I saw at Sundance, this was by far the best. The imagery was bright and fun. You almost want to get up and cheer for the hero throughout the film. I don't know if or when this film is going to come out but if it does---see it!
