Why I won't be watching the Hannibal TV Series

26 November 2011 4:28 AM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

After weeks of speculation about Lithuania's best known connoisseur of fava beans and nice Chianti being brought to the small screen, it appears that the rumours are true and that the NBC network is producing the project. Rather than going down the usual pilot route, however, it seems that screenwriter Bryan Fuller, most notable for his work on Pushing Daisies and Star Trek's Voyager and Deep Space Nine, is on board and is writing a script which, if approved by the network, will secure a 13-episode commitment that will focus on Lecter's early days and his cat-and-mouse games with his greatest nemesis, FBI profiler Will Graham.

Now I love the character of Hannibal Lecter, first introduced to the world by reclusive author Thomas Harris in his 1981 Red Dragon novel (and first played on screen - in Michael Mann's 1986 adaptation Manhunter - by Brian Cox, before Anthony Hopkins indelibly »

The Halloween Franchise – The Nights He Came Home

27 October 2011 4:50 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In Hollywood there is nothing more terrifying than an original idea. It’s a fear born from the unknown, fear that audiences won’t get it, fear that it won’t do ‘good business.’ For nervous studio executives, both the movie franchise and the remake are a reassuring comfort blanket. These are movies that already have a guaranteed audience and producers can relax in the knowledge that the same idea has made money before.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) is in the rare position of being both a franchise movie and a direct remake of John Carpenter’s 1978 classic. That Zombie’s film raked in a massive $30.6 million on its opening weekend is hardly surprising. Nor should it be surprising that the film is a mess – lacking originality, insight, and, worst of all, scares. The sequel released in 2009 is even worse.

But fans of the original have little reason to complain. »

Your Acting Sucks (A Look at Bianca Kajlich in Halloween: Resurrection)

21 October 2011 2:55 PM, PDT | Horrorbid | See recent Horrorbid news »

Rarely do I ever put a post up about one particular actor, but Bianca Kajlich just bugged me to the core. I was watching Halloween: Resurrection (2002) and I couldn't help but be more horrified by the acting of Bianca Kajlich, playing Sara Moyer, at the end than be scared of Michael Myers. Originally Jacinda Barrett was suppose to play the role of Sara. She does not have one horror bone in her body which makes her acting so unbelievable. On top… »

Conan The Barbarian Screenwriter Reveals What It's Like To See Your Movie Flop

24 August 2011 9:02 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Conan the Barbarian was such a stunning flop when it opened to just $10 million last weekend that there wasn't even the usual round of Hollywood blame game-- everyone involved, from Lionsgate to Jason Momoa on down, seemed anxious to just stick their heads in the sand and forget the whole thing. Even Deadline, in their snarky "autopsy report" on the movie, could only decide that "the execution was just poor, poor, poor." Essentially, everyone had to bear the weight of this stinker. Including, as it turns out, one of the three credited screenwriters, Sean Hood, who has weathered other critical misfires like Halloween: Resurrection and Cube: Hypercube. This time, though, Hood took to the Internet to describe what it feels like to watch your movie tank, in a long and very thoughtful post at Quora. In some ways he's got some necessary distance from the process-- he argues, as many »

'Conan The Barbarian' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

MTV News has been with the reboot throughout its rocky road to release.

By Eric Ditzian

Jason Momoa in "Conan the Barbarian"

"Conan the Barbarian" star Jason Momoa hasn't actually seen the previous versions of his sword-swinging adventure — or, as he once put it to MTV News, "the Arnold stuff" — but we have clear-enough memories to know Schwarzenegger's franchise became straight-up silly after the 1982 original and was in desperate need of contemporary reinvention.

Robert E. Howard's barbaric creation deserved better than a faceoff with Wilt Chamberlain in "Conan the Destroyer." Conan finally got it, with Momoa's new film hitting theaters on Friday (August 19). But there was a long and rocky path toward that theatrical release, with filmmakers joining then quickly departing the project and various Hollywood players being unable to kick things into production. Come with us on a journey called the MTV News cheat sheet, »

‘Conan the Barbarian’ Screenwriter Promises ‘Unflinching’ Reboot

5 May 2011 7:04 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian warrior, Conan the Barbarian was originally given the big screen treatment back in the 1980s, with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the titular role. While the Schwarzenegger films are generally considered good campy fun (the first Conan is, at least), even their fans don’t deny they aren’t exactly loyal translations of Howard’s source material.

Yesterday marked the arrival of an official Conan the Barbarian trailer, which offered an early look at this summer’s reboot. If nothing else, the footage on display suggested the new film will adhere closer to the look and atmosphere of Conan literature, especially that of the character’s comic book incarnation.

Conan the Barbarian was scripted by Dylan Dog: Dead of Night writing duo Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, in collaboration with Sean Hood (Halloween: Resurrection). The ...
