'Battlestar Galactica' Star Katee Sackhoff To Play A 'Sexy Evil Genius'

16 December 2010 7:48 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

See, I have this problem where I came late into the "Battlestar Galactica" phenomenon (two years ago) so I am completely obsessed with Katee Sackhoff's badass portrayal of Starbuck, while most other fans were a bit turned off by the way "24" failed to sufficiently use her talents in the show's final season. That being said, it is to my great pleasure that The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Sackhoff will be starring in the upcoming film "Sexy Evil Genius," created by screenwriter Scott Lew and directed by Shawn Piller. Finally, not a horror flick!

Since her runs on "Battlestar Galactica" and "24," Sackhoff has slowly and steadily started to get film work. She is filming "The Haunting in Georgia" right now with Chad Michael Murray and Abigail Spencer, and is set to start on the horror flick "Growl" soon. Literally, all this woman has ever done is horror films. Her »

Score one for Battlestar Galactica fans! Katee Sackhoff’s rep confirms to EW that the actress has landed the leading role in Shawn Piller’s Sexy Evil Genius. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film centers on a woman who brings together her ex-boyfriends in a revenge plot. Genius is just one of three film projects Sackhoff has in the works: She’s currently filming The Haunting in Georgia and is set to star in the horror film Growl. The TV alum (Battlestar, 24, Nip/Tuck) previously appeared in films like Halloween: Resurrection and My First Mister. »

Death Of Scream Queens and The New Blood

8 December 2010 11:17 PM, PST | MoreHorror | See recent MoreHorror news »

by Mike Pickle

The key selling point to many great (and tons of not-so-great) Horror films is young, attractive women. You can't have a scary monster or a psychopathic killer without a damsel in distress for them to terrorize.

Sure, a female lead is a necessary component to any film, but no other genre relies as heavily on strong female characters as Horror. The women who do it best and do it more often are awarded the title of "Scream Queen".

They are the emotional core, the eye candy, and the very reason that these films both scare and excite us. The look of fear in their eyes transports us into their world and makes us feel what it must be like to be chased by a demented murderer, mythical beast or demon from hell. As our society changes, adapts and evolves; so must the Horror genre.

Halloween madness: What horror-movie marathon will you be watching this weekend?

30 October 2010 9:06 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Happy Halloween, PopWatchers. If you’re like me, you’ll be observing All Hallows’ Eve this weekend in the awesomest possible way: parking your buns on the couch and settling in for a marathon of whatever horror movies your friendly neighborhood cable channels have programmed, regardless of whether I’ve seen the movies before or not. Now, I’m not a horror buff (I leave that to my colleague Clark Collis), but I do enjoy getting a fright this time of year. (Last Halloween, I watched Carrie for about the millionth time.) But the thing is, I’m lazy, so »

The Saw Franchise: Game Over – A Retrospective

29 October 2010 4:00 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It is easy to underestimate the Saw franchise. As the series has progressed, each instalment has received less and less critical attention as it is presumed to have degraded to Jason Takes Manhattan levels of craptitude.

The truth is, however, that the six (going on seven) films in the Saw series have achieved something no other horror franchise could have dreamed of: $738,465,450 worldwide.

While I am the first to admit that the more recent instalments have wavered in quality, they are buckling under a dense, convoluted plot rather than  nuking the fridge with a space-set adventure (Jason X, Leprechaun: In Space) or post-modern metafilm (Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Scream 3, Halloween: Resurrection). Instead, the producers continue to craft intricate and comparatively competent installments on a yearly basis.

With Freddy and Jason rebooted and defanged for a teenage audience, it is nice to see Jigsaw stave off the law of »

The Best and Worst Films of the Halloween Franchise

25 October 2010 2:25 AM, PDT | Horrorbid | See recent Horrorbid news »

HorrorBid's "Countdown to Halloween" continues. John Carpenter had no idea what kind of monster he was creating when he embarked on a little independent film project in 1978. Originally titled The Baby-sitter Murders, the shoestring budget horror film renamed Halloween would change the face of the holiday forever spawning sequel after sequel and two re-imaginings. They never recaptured the magic of the original and the many sequels that followed proved that theory....

All films are cult classics but to the general horror audience the franchise becomes a blur after Halloween 2 and don't get any of us started on Halloween (8) Resurrection. So with Halloween less than a week away we thought we'd put our favorites of the franchise in order of best to worst and we ask you to do the same. Obviously our list is going to be different than most of yours and we understand that but at the »

'Fertile Ground' - at last, a promising flick from 'After Dark Originals'

22 August 2010 2:09 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Fertile Ground is the latest in the so-far-5 films made by After Dark Originals starring Leisha Hailey. Major Suckage, or Yay-ness?

I haven't seen it yet, so how could I know? We don't even have a trailer, man!

After Dark Originals: A New Brand of Fear is the latest development (with a little help from Lionsgate) from the people that started Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For in 2006. Most of the films, which would normally have gone straight-to-dvd, were very hit and miss. Though the label presented the films as 'too shocking for theaters' (and then proceeded to show them in theaters), what was soon discivered was that the real issue wasn't that they were 'too' shocking, but rather that the films fell into the grey area of too high budget to Not be screened theatrically, but lacking in a serious way in the plot, scares, or 'other' department that made »

Sean Hood Brings Us The Haunting in New York

11 June 2010 11:06 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Okay, so we've officially got a franchise on our hands. The success of The Haunting in Connecticut already spawned one sequel that will be lensing soon, The Haunting in Georgia, but apparently there's one more on the way after that!

According to Variety horror scribe Sean Hood (Cube 2: Hypercube, Halloween: Resurrection) has been tapped to pen The Haunting in New York for Gold Circle Films. The studio noted that neither Georgia nor New York are direct sequels to Connecticut but instead are self-contained films with unique characters.

The Haunting in New York is based on the rights to "A Haunting: The Diabolical," a TV documentary that ran in 2006 on the Discovery Channel. "The Diabolical" was the second episode in the second season of the ongoing series. Check out the synopsis for the episode below.
