surprisingly watchable, but tepid, 18 April 2002
Author: littlesiddie from Cambridge, MA

I never thought I would ever see someone making yet another film about paraplegics struggling to regain the use of their legs. I remember that premise as being one of the most over used, tear jerking clichés of my youthful TV watching life.

Nonetheless, this movie was surprisingly fast pasted and quirky and watchable. The main characters are wild and crazy, hip French youths, so that aspect of the film gave it a weird fascination, like I imagine French MTV to be. And the fact that these kids are acting up while wheelchair bound is all the more weird.

The main character is given a believable enough personality, he's sort of shallow and headstrong and stubborn. And that's just one of a number of unexpected things that make this film rise above its exceedingly stale, shopworn premise.

But although the film is watchable, its not particularly good, either. If you're interested in modern French culture and language, then this film is an Ok time-waster. Otherwise, I wouldn't advise going out of my way to see it.
