True Blood Sinks Its Fangs Into Two New Vampires

18 October 2011 1:14 PM, PDT | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Bon Temps is getting crowded once again.

Fresh off a season packed with werewolves, inbred werepanthers, witches, vampires, fairies, shape-shifters, and assorted spirits of the deceased, True Blood is expanding its cast to include two new characters.

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop, saying that producers are looking to cast a character named Nora, a beautiful vampire who was turned by Godric.  As any good True Blood fan knows, Godric was vampire Eric’s maker as well, which makes Nora a sort of half sister.

The producers are also looking to go Biblical on us.  They’re looking to cast a character named Salome, who was the daughter of Herodias in The New Testament and who also happens to be a vampire.

With True Blood going back to the Bible for inspiration, fingers crossed that they draw from the Gerard Butler tour-de-force Dracula 2000 and feature the betrayer Judas as Dracula, »

Gerard Butler And Lena Headey Wanted For '300' Follow-Up; Unknowns Likely Getting Lead Roles

12 September 2011 2:24 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

It's been known for some time now that 'Funny People' director, Noam Murro has taken over the directorial duties on '300: Battle of Artemisia,' the follow-up to director Zack Snyder's 2006 smash-hit, '300.' What hasn't been known however is who will star. Movies.com caught up with producer working on the film, Bernie Goldmann, and asked him of the cast. He said:  "It’s a different story. [However] there’s a small part for Lena [Headey]. There’s a small part for Gerry [Butler]." Of who is to take on the leads, he said:  "When you make a period movie like that, it’s great not to know the actors. For me, as an audience, it always brings me into the movie more. You can’t see Tom Cruise in a historical movie. You go, 'That’s Tom Cruise!'" With Butler staying busy these days with the likes of »

Fangs for the Memories: Vampires on Film in the 21st Century

23 August 2011 7:14 AM, PDT | Horrorbid | See recent Horrorbid news »

There were a lot of things promised to us as children about the future we would one day experience, particularly of the dawning of the new millennium in the year 2000. Sadly, our flying cars, food replicators and robotic servants have yet to become the standard. On the plus side, we did get a fair amount of decent vampire flicks. Dracula 2000 (2000) The quickest way to capitalize on the new century is to produce films with the year in the titl… »

Jeri Ryan Talks Acting And Guest Spot On Tonight’s Warehouse 13 – Interview

1 August 2011 10:54 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Jeri Ryan is making her mark on television these days, from guest spots on some of my favorite shows, to Body of Proof, and tonight you'll get a chance to see her on an all-new episode of Syfy's Warehouse 13Warehouse 13, part of Syfy's Powerful Mondays, has been putting together a lot of fun since it first kicked off, and is still sticking true to the Go Big, or Go Home theory of wacky science-fiction.

In tonight's episode, Queen for a Day, Ryan shows up as Eddie's ex-wife, and the episode takes us to a Civil War re-enactment.

Below, check out an interview with Jeri, in which she talks about working on the show, acting, and much more. Plus, catch a couple of quick glimpses at the episode.

What was your most memorable moment working on the show?

Jeri Ryan: Wow. The most memorable moment. That’s a good question. »

Blu-Ray Review: Drive Angry Is A Forgettable, Regrettable Copy-Cat

4 July 2011 3:47 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Nicolas Cage is a remarkably difficult actor to gauge these days: long-gone are the days when his occasionally one-dimensional “range” was acceptable because of the iconic, cult-like nature of the films he appeared in – Con Air, The Rock, The Cotton Club – to be replaced with a healthy perpetual wonder at why he continues to attach himself to the projects that he chooses to.

And yet, Cage is still definitely able to turn heads with his performances: he was brilliant in Kick-Ass, and appropriately bonkers in Bad Lieutenant and I surely can’t be the only one to have enjoyed his turn as Indiana Jones-lite in the two National treasure films?

But no matter how many good turns he offers it’s difficult not to be distracted by the monumental horrendousness of everything else. In the past couple of years, we’ve seen Season of the Witch, Knowing, Bangkok Dangerous, next »

Blu Room: Drive Angry 3D (3D Blu-ray & Blu-ray Pack)

Drive Angry 3D (3D Blu-ray/Blu-Ray)Summit Home Entertainment2011/Rated R/109 minsList Price: $34.99 – Now AvailableWait, wasn't Nicolas Cage just in a movie? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot who I was writing about. I've said it many times before, I can forgive Cage for making so many bad movies, because more often than not, he makes solid, entertaining films. Forget the National Treasures and the Ghost Riders, small gems like Matchstick Men and Bad Lieutenant are the types of unconventional flicks most name actors wouldn't have the confidence to sign up for. You've gotta give Cage credit as well. Hit or miss, the guy's a bold risk taker, the kind of actor whose willing to bet his career just to be experimental and have a little fun in the process. At this point, I think it's safe to say Cage has reached a peak where his career is safe no matter what he does. »

They say that everyone has to start somewhere, and, like several directors before him, Patrick Lussier started out as a film editor. He collaborated with actor-screenwriter Todd Farmer on the successful 3D horror remake My Bloody Valentine 3D, which lead to the writer and director's latest collaboration, the fantastic 3D action-thriller Drive Angry, which arrives on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on May 31.

"Piranha 3Dd" Gets Script Polish, Tara Reid

Recently "Piranha 3Dd", the sequel to last year's fun creature feature, found its slot on the film release schedule being pushed back by two months. Now, two new additions have been made to the cast and crew.

Veteran horror film writer/producer Joel Soisson ("Dracula 2000," "Highlander: Endgame") has come onboard the project to re-write Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan’s script and produce the film reports Moviehole.

Meanwhile, actress Tara Reid has also joined the cast reports Perez Hilton. Reid, mostly famous for her tabloid image in recent years, has been booking projects quickly this week as she's also jumped onboard "American Reunion", the fourth "American Pie" film.

With 'Piranha' she joins a cast that includes "Glee" star Mark Salling and "Camelot" actress Tamsin Egerton. John Gulager directs and shooting kicks off soon in North Carolina.

Update: The Weinstein Company have sent a statement to EW denying both Reid and Salling's involvement. »

Horror at the Oscars Part III

12 March 2011 4:25 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Tremors? Nightbreed? Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat? 976-evil? Are all on the list this year. And though there were not huge horror wins in sound editing through screenplays, the Technical Awards never cease to bring out the horror veterans. Notably Tim Drnec who contributed to such VHS classics as Alien Seed, Destroyer, and Prison won for his work on “Spydercam 3D volumetric suspended cable camera technologies.” An award also shared with Ben Britten Smith and Matt Davis who both also worked on Constantine.

But among all the winners, the Academy also honored some great loses in 2010. And though they mentioned some of our heroes, Dennis Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kevin McCarthy (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Dino de Laurentiis (King Kong), they did not mention Zelda Rubinstein or Corey Haim. But we will in this last section and the others lost to us last year.

So farewell fight fans and remember, »

Dread hit the red carpet premiere of Summit Entertainment’s Drive Angry 3D (releasing wide this Friday, February the 25th) last night at the Arclight in Hollywood, CA, and brought back some ocular candy and video from the event (see our interview with star Nic Cage below) as well as interviews with the flick’s principal cast and crew.

The film, co-written by Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier (and directed by the latter), revolves around ‘Milton’ (Cage), a hardened felon who, in a chance for redemption, breaks out of hell (literally) in order to save his granddaughter from the vicious cult that murdered his own daughter. Joining him in this dubious escapade is actress Amber Heard as a waitress who donates her ex-boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car and skills in an effort to thwart the cult and their leader, ‘Jonah King’ (actor Billy Burke).
