Since the release of the film, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) lost a lawsuit to the World Wildlife Fund and was forced to change their name from WWF to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Former WWF mid card wrestler Koko B. Ware is briefly featured in the movie. In his scene he speaks about letting his trademark mascot, a bird named Franke "Fly Away". Sadly, three years after the completion of this film, Frankie the bird perished when the apartment building Koko was living in burnt to the ground.

Vince McMahon was reportedly upset when neither he nor his company received any compensation after the film's success at the box office, as he had been led to believe that it was a non-commercial independent film. McMahon subsequently refused to promote the movie, even going so far as to ban the film's trailers from airing during commercial breaks of his WWF Raw (1993) broadcasts.
