'Suicide Squad' Creator Talks Movie Plot, Cast and Oprah

8 December 2014 9:43 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Fans finally learned who is playing the Suicide Squad in Warner Bros. and DC Comics' upcoming adaptation last week. Will Smith (Deadshot), Tom Hardy (Rick Flagg), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jared Leto (The Joker), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Cara Delevingne (Enchantress) are all confirmed, but there is still one important character yet to be cast, the squad's leader and main villain Amanda Waller. We reported shortly after the cast was announced that Oprah Winfrey is the studio's top candidate, and the actress is also the top choice of Suicide Squad comic book creator John Ostrander. Here's what he had to say in a recent interview with Comic Book Resources.

"What's really interesting to me is that all three of the women that they were talking about, Oprah Winfrey, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, were at the top of my list. Actually, I was just talking to my fianc&#233 Mary Mitchell the other day, »

Ostrander Talks 'Suicide Squad' Casting, Joker, And More

8 December 2014 9:14 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

John Ostrander is the man responsible for the modern day depiction of the Suicide Squad as we know them. His 1987 reboot of the team has become what people think of when they think of the them, completely wiping away the original 1959 incarnation of the group. So with all the news coming out of Warner Bros lately, regarding the cast and plans for their big budget film based on the group of villains, it was only natural that someone would reach out to Ostrander for his thoughts.

Ostrander seems downright giddy about the film, which is nice to see. Relations between comic book writers and the Hollywood productions based on their work can be tricky, but Ostrander is fully onboard with everything he's seen and heard.

"I was pleased, but I wouldn't have guessed that it would have been one of the properties that they would do quite so quickly," he told Comic Book Resources. »
