Loose Women: the chatshow that refuses to back down

Peter Robinson goes behind the scenes of ITV’s daytime panel programme to meet Coleen, Jamelia and Ruth backstage and discuss telly snobs and speaking your mind

“Most of my life,” explains Coleen Nolan as she attempts to control a three-legged dog, “is spent shovelling horse poo.” We’re in the Loose Women canteen and kind-faced one-time pop clan member Nolan is cheerily detailing her home life in Cheshire, which is where you’ll find her when she’s not on telly business.

Her three-legged dog Mika will make his TV debut on forthcoming blubfest Give A Pet A Home, while his new owner is next due on screens in 90 minutes as one of four faces fronting 16-year-old lunchtime chat behemoth Loose Women – still a hoot after 19 series in the game, and still based on its iconic shot of four women having a chat and taking the piss out of each other. »

Jo told 'Loose Women': ''I called Adam Woodyatt by his real name, rather than by his character name, and do you know the irony is? When you start there a long time ago - seven years ago when I first started there - you spend a lot of time trying »

Speaking to her fellow panellists, Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Jane Moore, Gloria said: ''It was stupidity on my part really. We have a couple of very tall angels. »

June Sarpong has discussed her new voting campaign for the upcoming General Election.

The presenter has joined the likes of David Harewood and Sol Campbell in 'whiting up' her face to inspire ethnic minorities and black people to be more politically active.

Appearing on Loose Women, Sarpong explained the thinking behind the campaign, saying: "I was part of the team that put the campaign together. I called up Tinie [Tinie Tempah] and got him to do it. The reason we did it this way, was so people would start talking about it and the press has been fantastic...

"The message is, if you don't vote you take the colour out of Britain and these people bring colour to the country. It's celebrating diversity."

Revealing pictures of herself for the campaign, she added: "I think it works, don't you?"

The 37-year-old continued: "If you look at the statistics, one in four Bme [Black Minority Ethnic] voters who are eligible to vote, »

Kym Marsh has admitted that she doesn't vote at elections.

The Coronation Street actress said that there is "nothing" that makes her want to engage with politics.

On today's (April 13) edition of Loose Women, she said: "I know you're all going to go 'ohhh', but I don't vote. Shock horror! Why am I going to vote when I don't believe either of them or any of them?"

Fellow panelist Jane Moore disagreed with Marsh's stance, pointing out that people "fought and died for the vote".

"It's part of a democracy. Even if you register a protest vote, you've got to exercise that vote," she added.

Marsh replied: "I appreciate that, but I think it's so difficult. I can't choose between any of them, because there's nothing for me that makes me go [and want to vote]. They promise something, and that never happens anyway."

Moore went on to explain that voting is important to »

ITV's Loose Women is launching its own book club.

Loose Books will see the panellists take it in turns to select their favourite book for discussion on a month-by-month basis.

Coleen Nolan has selected The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins as the club's first book. The psychological thriller was published in January.

The panellists are free to choose any book whether it be fact or fiction. They can also pick classic novels or brand new releases to discuss with their co-stars.

Editor of Loose Women Martin Frizell said: "We think of our Loose Women viewers as part of a club and so it's a natural extension to widen that into a book club.

Jonathan Ross has spoken about Jeremy Clarkson's future with the BBC.

Speaking on Loose Women, he said: "I can associate but not in that way really, me, I was just an idiot.

"It's something the media love, we are already quite bored of politics, politicians every day.

"We're looking at Ed Miliband's fake kitchen, no one really cares. A story like this involves one of the most high-profile people in the country, an incredibly successful man as well, the success of that show worldwide, globally is an enormous thing."
