A Flemish court series in which each episode covers a trial before the 'court of assizes' (hence the Dutch title), the highest criminal court in Belgium, which hears the gravest charges, especially murder. The regular main characters are the judges (mainly the president), the public prosecutor (styled procureur-general, 'general procurator'), while the attorneys change with the defendant(s), the civil parties (who may also have lawyers of their own), and the witnesses, including police officers and onderzoeksrechter ('judge of instruction', a magistrate supervising the police investigation until the trial).
