A Gulzar Classic
ravisinger866 March 2014
The Direction Is Excellent Like Any Other Gulzar Movie ...As Per Acting Hema Malini Is Superb With Her Acting As Well As Dancing Skills ...Jeetendra is OK ...And in The Flash Back Which Exists In All Gulzar Movies Dharmendra Looks Better...Basic Concept is Defined Quite Perfectly ..Its About Attonement, Love & Life ..How Life Deals With Anyone...It Depends On Us How We Respond To It...Music Of The Movie Is Outstanding By R.D. Burman ...Songs Like Naam Gum Jayega Which Is a Melodious Classic By Bhupinder & Lata ... Jaane Kya Sochkar By Kishore Da Are Too Good To Listten ....Overall Something To Learn From The Movie...Quite Entertaining A True Classic As Per Gulzar Standards.

Poignant tale of guilt and repentance
csn_6129 September 2011
Here is a tender and touching movie about an ill fated Classical dancer ( Hema as Arati)who is in mourning as her fiancé Prof Chandan ( Dharmendra) has died in a car accident. She gives up dancing and wants to publish his history research as a parting gift. Jeetendra (Inder) is a modern young architect who loves fast cars and faster music. He meets up with the dancer in Mandu fort and finds out to his shock that the accident he caused led to her fiancé's death. Ridden with guilt he tries his best to make it up for her (as Prakash) and pay it forward . But he once again causes another accident in her life. The rest of the movie is about the unfortunate well-meaning young man Jeetendra and how he tries to bring about positive changes in Hema, the dancer despite her resistance and obvious dislike for him.. The movie is very sensitive , moves slowly but gracefully like a royal elephant, serene and languid, but never boring. Kudos to its ace film maker Gulzar.

It has gem of a music track scored by R D Burman who comes up with classical numbers like Naam gum Jaayega, Jaane kya sochkar and Meethe Bol Bole etc..Hema dances her 3 kathak and Bharatnatyam numbers with grace and elegance and it is worthwhile dekho just for that.

Sensitive movie with super music score by R.D. Burman
vineet_upendra7 April 2005
Just one of those of many '70's movies from the Hindi film industry that makes one wonder, "Why don't they make movies like this anymore?" Sensitively directed by Gulzar and a superlative performance by Hema Malini makes this touching movie a must-see. Incidentally, "Kinara" exploits Hema's classical dancing talent to the hilt. Jeetendra is just lucky he got such movies to act in (also "Khushboo" and "Parichay").

The ultimate scene stealer though, is music composer Rahul Dev Burman. Each song is a gem. Every song touches you deep within, leaving you wanting more. With soulful nuggets such as "Meri awaaz hi", "Ab ke na saawan barse", "Jaane kya sochkar", "Koi nahi hai kahin", you wonder why the musical genius (as usual) didn't win an award for his superb work.

A film by Gulzar saab
hds-240556 September 2020
A dancer first loses her fiancee and then her eyesight because of the same person, both by pure Providence. Still she ultimately unites with him. Sounds unconvincing? But this is what happens, and we simply accept and swallow. Fantastic storytelling. Gulzar saab's contribution in film making is far greater, stands tall in the fitting tradition of Bimal Roy.
