Watch out The Magic Roundabout!
c-h-tomlinson15 June 2005
Hilltop Hospital is thoroughly delightful. I saw one episode and was hooked! (I'm 35!) How many other children's programmes - let alone one like this aimed at preschoolers - would include an anaesthetist? The plot, like any hospital drama, focuses of the staff, rather than the patients. Nurse Kitty has the hots for Dr Matthews (the dog), who in turn fancies Surgeon Sally, who is simply married to her job! Celia Imrie was an excellent choice for the voice of this hippo.

Having worked in a hospital myself, this is as true-to-live as it could be for children this age. For example, in one episode, Dr Matthews is concerned about a patient with a lazy eye and seeks advice for using patches etc, where Surgeon Sally explains there's a "perfectly simple operation" and he should save time.

However, this show is terrific even at an adult level, and I anticipate it becoming more popular than The Magic Roundabout ever was!

Warning: Spoilers
To be absolutely honest, I didn't watch this as such, I only liked the theme tune, kind-of, and some of the short stories were just worth a giggle. However, there was one story that did kind-of interest me, that was the relationship between the dog Doctor Matthews and the cat Nurse Kitty, a weird combination. I don't know any cats that like any dogs, and vice versa, but who cares. When I did watch bits of it, flicking through channels or catching up on bits I was always kind-of wanting them to kiss or at least admit their feelings. Nurse Kitty would always get interrupted and Doctor Matthews was too busy with Sally the hippo, weird! Pretty pants, but bits it were okay! It won the BAFTA for Best Pre-School Animation. The kids will love it though!

A great show!

Memorable characters, great writing, and above all, it's fun.

I wish we had this on U.S. TV.

Spielberg should sign it up!

Excellent!

Warning: Spoilers
I was just so impressed with the way this show dealt with Chemotherapy. They stressed its importance without it being a terribly frightening issue.

This show is excellent on all levels, and it doesn't underestimate the mind of the pre-schooler, either. Instead it creates wonderful drama with a run-time (10 minutes an episode) that doesn't bore youngsters...or adults for that matter too. It doesn't play too heavily on the hard issues, like Cancer and Heart troubles, but it doesn't leave anything out at all.

This show is everything I wish I'd had when I was a youngster.
