On of the more original children's programmes that BBC did. A more interesting back ground for the witches rather than just "they are witches" instead they came from an island and had been banished by the evil/strict witch. One of them I believe it was Old noshy who ate frogs and bats. Gross but funny - something they seem to protect kids from today. I know that I loved to squirm! Was cheap. Most of it was centered in the small village with the usual characters that inhabit T.V villages. The crazy old lady the farmer etc. Was also the baddie who wanted the witches out so of course the mayhem was surrounding this character and disgracing the character was part of the amusement.
