Dirty Girl

31 December 2011 6:01 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Dirty Girl

Directed by: Abe Sylvia

Cast: Juno Temple, Jeremy Dozier, Milla Jovovich, Mary Steenburgen, William H. Macy

Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: October 7, 2011

Plot: In 1987 Danielle (Temple) is labelled the school’s “dirty girl.” She runs away to find her daddy and takes closeted gay Clarke and a bag of flour with her on her journey.

Who’S It For? Maybe, just maybe this movie will have some sort of effect on a troubled teen and wake them up, but then again they really shouldn’t be watching this R-rated flick.

Expectations: I had none. No one in the cast makes me truly excited, although I used to look forward to anything Macy was in.

Overall

Respect. It’s something that you earn. It is not just granted. Movies aren’t exempt from this thought. Dirty Girl doesn’t earn my respect. Neither does director Abe Sylvia. »

Parenthood Season 3 Spoilers: What's Next for the Bravermans?

When last we left Parenthood's Team Braverman, things were finally looking up a bit, with Crosby's, Adam's, and Sarah's relationships all recovering from earlier bumps in the road. Julia seemed to be moving on from the thought of adopting Zoe's baby, Amber was ready to get out of the food service industry, and Drew had finally poked his head out of his shell enough to get a girlfriend and some confidence. As much drama (and melodrama) as the Braverman family had dealt with in season 3, it looked as if the storm clouds had finally cleared a little.

But wait! This is Parenthood after all, so the final seven episodes of the season are bound to amp things up. That amping up looks to be starting with Braverman partiarch Zeek, generally a peripheral character that tends to pop up in other people's »

Hans Zimmer Talks 'Sherlock' Sequel's Human Rights Awareness Connection

14 December 2011 8:20 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

There are many reasons to love and appreciate composer Hans Zimmer and not just for film score nerds like us. The most recent being the fact that while doing research for music to incorporate into the "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" score, he was exposed to the human rights abuses and infringements being inflicted upon the Roma people, a minority population (also known as gypsies) in Central and Eastern Europe.

For those who know anything about "Game of Shadows," you might recall that new addition Noomi Rapace's character is described as a gypsy. Zimmer recently told MTV News that he wanted the music for Rapace's character and a few other assorted scenes to be authentic so in an effort to understand the culture of the Roma people better he pitched a "road trip" to director Guy Ritchie and brought along his daughter Zoe Zimmer who is a fashion photographer. »

Oscar-Winner Makes Dreams Come True

8 December 2011 8:09 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Any time Hans Zimmer begins a project, he panics: no matter how many iconic movie scores he has composed, the Oscar-winner fears he'll be unable to come up with even a single new harmony. But as soon as Zimmer began reading the script for director Guy Richie's second Sherlock Holmes film, he knew exactly what he had to do. It was, if you'll forgive the expression, elementary.

"I went to about page five of the script and it said, 'The Gypsy fortuneteller.' I lifted up the phone, phoned Guy and said, 'Road trip!'" Zimmer told The Huffington Post on Tuesday. "Only one thing we can do -- we have to do a road trip."

That meant packing their bags and heading east to Slovakia, where the disenfranchised and poverty-stricken Roma population congregated after been hounded out of various Western European cities. If Zimmer's task was to score a film involving the Roma, »

Amazon studios: one year on

1 December 2011 4:06 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Amazon.com's movie studio promised to throw the development process open to the masses. One year on, how has the crowdsourced screenplay caught on?

There is something wrong with modern Hollywood – we can agree on that. Too many remakes and sequels and prequels; far too many computer game and toy adaptations. Everyone thinks the profit-focused, top-down system is too busy chasing "pre-branded content" to find new talent, and too risk-averse to take a chance on original stories. Industry insiders complain as much as moviegoers, but viable alternatives are thin on the ground. Until a year ago.

In November last year, Amazon.com, the online book merchants turned internet visionaries, announced the launch of a new kind of movie studio. Their idea was to throw open the gates to all comers, regardless of geographic location, industry connections or – some would say – talent. The goal, according to their own website is: "To »

Smart Wanted Eco-friendly Wedding

17 November 2011 5:31 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Amy Smart ensured her wedding to TV carpenter Carter Oosterhouse was as eco-friendly as possible by recycling trash after the ceremony.

The Road Trip star snubbed a white wedding for a green one when she exchanged vows with Oosterhouse in his native Michigan in September.

Oosterhouse tells Eonline.com, "Our wedding was very green. We had 220 people there and only one bag of trash, not even a full bag. We recycled everything, we composted everything."

The newlyweds are now looking for a new house to share, and Smart hopes they will be able to install energy-efficient solar panels on the roof of the property.

She adds, "For my house, I had (the solar panelling company) come and... try and put them on my roof. From the mountains and the location, they said I wouldn't be able to benefit from it and it would be so expensive because I get so much shade at some points. So yeah, if we can, we will definitely try to put solar on (the new house)." »
