First Search Party International Trailer Featuring Thomas Middleditch, Tj Miller, Krysten Ritter, Alison Brie and More

2 December 2014 10:36 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first trailer for Scot Armstrong’s feature directorial debut just surfaced and even though it isn’t laugh-out-loud funny, I’m still holding out hope.  Search Party stars Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch as Nardo, a guy who was just about to get married and live happily ever after, but instead winds up naked in the middle of the Mexican desert.  Now it’s up to his buddies played by Tj Miller and Adam Pally to bring him home. Armstrong wrote Semi-Pro and co-wrote films like Old School and The Hangover Part II so he’s certainly had hits and misses over the years, but with talent like Middleditch, Miller, Pally, Krysten Ritter, Alison Brie and Jason Mantzoukas on the Search Party roster, it’s hard to imagine the film falling completely flat.  Hopefully the official domestic trailer for the film will be a little more refined and include more winning jokes, »

Watch: First Trailer For Comedy 'Search Party' With 'Silicon Valley' Leads Plus Alison Brie, Krysten Ritter, And More

2 December 2014 7:05 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

What happens when the key leads of HBO's "Silicon Valley" (Tj Miller and Thomas Middleditch) along with Adam Pally, Alison Brie, Krysten Ritter, Shannon Woodward, Aziz Ansari, Jason Mantzoukas, and Delroy Lindo make a movie that no one seems to be aware of? Well, you get "Search Party," and coming from the guy who wrote "Road Trip," "Old School," and "The Hangover Part II," that alone should give you a good idea of what this is all about. Scot Armstrong moves from the writing desk to the director's chair for his first outing, which tells the story of a guy whose wedding gets ruined, who then winds up naked in the middle of Mexico, gets mixed up with drug dealers and has to get his friends to come and save him. Frankly, it sounds like all of Armstrong's previous movies squashed together and rolled into one, and perhaps there's a »

Sons of Anarchy Recap: The Truth Will Set You Free

Anyone else starting to see a pattern in these final Sons of Anarchy episodes?

Following Bobby’s unfortunate capture (and loss of an eyeball) in last week’s installment, Tuesday’s hour found Jax & Co. going through very similar motions: Trying and failing to gain the upper hand on an enemy, getting brutally violent when things don’t go according to plan and — after receiving another body part of Bobby’s in a package from Moses Cartwright — silently realizing just how deep this rabbit hole goes.

That said, this week’s episode did manage to throw a few curveballs at us, »

Entertainment Geekly Mailbag: A serious attempt to explain movies about White Dude Problems

13 October 2014 12:04 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

1999 will always be one of my favorite years for movies. This is partially because there were a lot of great movies released that year, but mainly because in 1999 I was in high school, and as we all know, the world was more important and less terrible when we were in high school. Last week, I took a look at which movies from 1999 had aged well, and asked which had aged poorly. The response was overwhelming, insofar as it's overwhelming that anyone likes American Beauty. However, one reader email in particular struck me as a launchpad for an important conversation. Here »

Z Nation Preview - Should You Tune In or Shamble On?

10 September 2014 7:00 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

If a step-by-step guide were written for how to create a standard zombie narrative, it would be titled "Z Nation." Start with one part outbreak footage, and mix in some overlapping audio clips of news regarding said outbreak.

Simmer it in a stock of basic characters with one part brown-haired stubbly leader, one part love interest, two parts mysterious drifters with unexplained combat prowess, and three parts uninteresting zombie chow to beef up the cast.

Marinade in a standard post-apocalyptic world, equal parts towns trying to make it and traveling caravans with dubious intent. Bake for 45 minutes in standard character dilemmas, adding in a mission to cure the virus for some longevity. Garnish with dialogue.

I try not to be too critical of things for being standard. I can’t expect everyone watching something to have the same breadth of exposure as I do, and in my experience there’s »

Interview: Comic Actor Matt Walsh Goes ‘Into the Storm’

7 August 2014 8:54 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Matt Walsh has been more visible lately, and it has much to do with his approach to character roles, beginning as Mike McLintock on the HBO series “Veep” and currently in the new film “Into the Storm.” For a Chicago native who began doing comedy improvisation here, he is moving on up.

Matthew Paul Walsh was born in Chicago, and graduated from Hinsdale High School. After college at Northern Illinois University, he became enamored of the improv scene in Chicago in the early 1990s, and studied under the master instructor Del Close. While dividing time between the Annoyance Theater and the ImprovOlympics (iO) in the city, he helped to found the “Uptight Citizens Brigade” (Ucb), which also featured Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Besser. The troupe got its own show on Comedy Central, and has opened Ucb theaters in New York and Los Angeles.
