Sex & Nudity

  • Some nudity references are made, but they are never sexual. The most risqué of them is the buttocks of a villain; it is comical in nature.
  • Master Roshi is a pervert, however most references will go unnoticed by younger viewers and most of them are based on him finding women attractive. Roshi presses boobs of many girls in series. In a particular scene Roshi falls on a girls breasts, and statrs squeezing them. A very short scene as the girl slaps him. Roshi is seen reading pornographic magazines, and giggling over the contents. No nudity.

Violence & Gore

  • The bulk of DBZ is made of up fights which can contain dismemberment, blowing holes into each other and even death. However, the violence is incredibly fantastical with all of the aforementioned damage incurred by "energy beams" or "ki attacks". Depending on the version shown, there may be blood. However, any such scenes are not dwelt upon for long. Anyone who loses a limb tends to show pain at first but does not really suffer from it.
  • It gets noticeably more violent with season 3.
  • Some of the more violence scenes include:
    • Cell, another villain, "sucking" the life from people with his tail. No gore is shown and most of it is off-camera

Profanity

  • Mild, small uses of 'piss' in season 1, frequent uses of 'bastard' and 'piss'.
  • In the redub of the Saiyan and Namek saga dubs by FUNimation, the words 'damn' and 'hell' are used.
  • A man gives another man the finger.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The villains could scare younger viewers. The villains are quite menacing looking but are still quite comical. They make evil laughs and talk about destroying/taking over the world.
  • There are a lot of intense fight scenes and many characters die or come close to death.
  • The edited version is suitable for children, the uncut version is suitable for teenagers.
