Escaped bank robber goes after his girl friend and the loot
21 December 2013 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Marriage of Convenience" is episode 3 of season 1 of the British Edgar Wallace Mystery Theater.

This one is a spiffy affair that director Clive Donner moves right along. You need to keep close track of the dialog and fast cuts because of the ins and outs of the rapidly developing action. The story opens very nicely with an escape, not from prison but from a faked marriage in a government registry office. The "bride" is actually the daughter of a cellmate of the escapee (John Cairney), and the released father gets involved too.

Looking for the loot, Cairney seeks his old confederate in the robbery, who was a secretary at the bank (Moira Redmond). That takes a bit of doing because she has married the old inspector who was on the case.

Meanwhile police are on his trail.

It's a decent crime story that's helped by the exterior location work. Lots of pretty starlets don't hurt either.
