Storyline

Clarence, just returned from the city, is proud of his clothes and his automobile. While out riding he meets Ruth, an old schoolmate, whom he invites to ride with him. She accepts, much to the displeasure of her sweetheart, Bill. The joy-riders have a fine time until they have proceeded about two miles; then the automobile stops. Clarence climbs over it, under it and around it. He tinkers here and there, takes out the spark plugs, tries his carburetor and makes a general study of his engine, and cranks the machine until his arm and shoulder are sore, but without the desired result, the machine refuses to budge. Just then Bill comes riding by on a wagon. Ruth thinks, "Here is my chance to get home." Bill stops, looks the situation over, but refuses to permit the young lady to ride with him. Bill starts on his way, but after making a turn in the road his conscience reproaches him and he returns to the automobile, telling Ruth she may ride in his wagon, but absolutely refusing to allow ...
