Todd Haynes's first film, Assassins takes as its subject the violent love between poets Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine. Presaging the concerns of "Poison", and "Velvet Goldmine", it's a Godardian essay that cannily plays with the artifice of its own student-film limitations. Written by Anonymous

i saw it

This short film screened in Austin in September 2003 at Cinematexas 8, a short film festival with Todd in attendance. It is a must see for Haynes fans. The young actor who plays Rimbaud is a real hottie. Todd watched the film with us and told us Laura Linney, who went to Brown with him in the 80's, is an extra in the opening dance scene.
