Here's the thing. If you have an estranged wife, it may not be a wise idea to head to her house for some dinner. These situations just never end well. Knives become involved, rabbits end up being boiled in pots, the sky's the limit when it comes to a woman scorned!

Karyn Kusama‘s post-Girlfight career certainly hasn’t lived up to that inaugural outing, but the director — last seen in 2009 with Jennifer’s Body — has a couple of good options on her plate right now. Although she was recently stockpiling leads for The Rut, Deadline reports she’s starting to veer toward another project — and it’s assembling at a quick clip. This new film, entitled The Invitation, is a horror piece that, per Deadline’s word, will star Luke Wilson, Topher Grace, Zachary Quinto, and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory); Xyz Films are producing for Celluloid Nightmare, who are selling the international rights at Cannes.
Written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Kusama‘s Æon Flux, Clash of the Titans), The Invitation revolves around a man (Wilson) who suspects something is not only “off” about the occupants of his ex-wife’s dinner party, but that some kind »

And just about any movie that needs a tough-talking, gun-packing, deceptively hot senorita who doesn’t mind getting killed sometime near the end of the film. That’s Michelle Rodriguez’s Hollywood career in a nutshell. A far cry from when she broke onto the scene with the gritty 2000 boxing flick “Girlfight”. Anyways, the trades are now confirming that Rodriguez, who has been killed off almost as much as Sean Bean (though to be fair to our gal, Bean has been working much, much longer), will indeed return for Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” sequel — the imaginatively titled “Machete Kills” — and the sixth installment in Universal’s “The Fast and Furious” franchise. Amazingly enough, Rodriguez managed to survive the first “Machete” movie, with its obscene amount of bloodletting and armory of weaponry. Go figure. Of course, death isn’t going to stop Michelle Rodriguez’s characters from returning. She supposedly died »

On a blustery December morning late last year, Dread Central headed out to the set of Resident Evil: Retribution, which was being filmed at the Cinespace Studios, along with a group of fellow journalists to see just what director Paul W.S. Anderson had planned for the fifth entry in the widely popular franchise.
Upon entering Cinespace, we were greeted by a large Christmas tree with an undead zombie friend propped up nearby, signaling the cast and crew still remained in good spirits even if this was 47th day of shooting on the sequel.
As we made our way through the vacuous sound stages, we finally entered where Anderson and his crew were shooting a scene that leads into Resident Evil: Retribution's epic showdown in the wintry terrain of Russia between Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), who was a bit of an 'Easter egg' in the credits sequence of Resident Evil: Afterlife. »

Let's just get this out of the way, I'm about to spoil some movies for ya. So tread carefully.
Ok, so, the trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution was just released online and amongst all the eye-popping colors and Mila Jovovich's signature fighty-fight was a revelation I found myself unprepared for: Michelle Rodriguez returns!
For the uninitiated, Michelle co-starred in 2002's seriously awesome original Resident Evil movie, which saw her character Rain get bitten by an infected and killed by Alice in the movie's closing moments. And while the franchise has routinely played with the mortality of its characters (Alice in particular), I don't quite understand exactly how Rain could have survived, had her humanity restored and remained off-the-radar until Re's fifth installment.
But then again, I don't know why I'm surprised since Michelle's characters have been resurrected so many times, even Jesus is all, "Seriously guys?"

Last month, I was in Toronto and it was snowing. While this normally wouldn't shock most people, there was absolutely no snow on the ground outside. All of the snow was fake inside Spfx Studios, where director Paul W.S. Anderson was shooting Resident Evil: Afterlife, which hits theaters nationwide September 14. It was rather odd to walk from a snowless Toronto inside this massive snow-covered soundstage, but this is the magic of Hollywood...in Canada.
For the uninitiated, Resident Evil: Retribution is essentially set up as the Fast Five of this franchise, meaning we see a lot of familiar faces return from past movies, such as Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo (Resident Evil), Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Oded Fehr as Carlos Olivera (Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction), and Boris Kodjoe as Luther West (Resident Evil: Afterlife). The hardcore gamer fans out there even get their »

[1] 2012 is already shaping up to be the biggest year yet of Adam Brody's post-oc career, as the actor books two more high-profile roles. One is Some Girls, a feature adaptation of Neil Labute's recent play about an almost-married man who travels across the country to visit his ex-girlfriends. [Update: The Hollywood Reporter [2] writes that Mad Men helmer Jennifer Getzinger will direct the drama.] But Brody's next project will likely be Rob Meltzer's Welcome to the Jungle, as that project will shoot next month in Puerto Rico. The story centers around a design firm that goes on retreat to a tropical island, only to become stranded and see Lord of the Flies-style chaos break out. Brody will play the protagonist, who must save his colleagues from a power-hungry leader. Brody's only one of a rather eclectic cast that also includes Rob Huebel, Dennis Haysbert, Kristen Schaal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Brody »

U.S. Box Office: Led by Mark Wahlberg, the thriller Contraband topped the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $24.1 million, followed by Disney’s re-release of Beauty and the Beast in 3D ($18.5 million) and gospel musical-comedy Joyful Noise ($11.3 million). Meanwhile, widely-derided horror flick The Devil Inside suffered a decline in attendance of 76.6%, a victim of bad word-of-mouth. (Box Office Mojo) Good Genes: Adventure drama The Rut added star power with the casting of Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) as the father of teen Chloe Moretz (Hugo), who seeks to impress him by embarking on a solo wilderness journey. Morgan and Moretz previously appeared together in indie drama Texas Killing Fields; Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, Jennifer’s Body) is set to...

With MGM's Red Dawn remake coming this year, genre-hopper Jeffrey Dean Morgan will now reteam with his Texas Killing Fields co-star Chloe Moretz for Karyn Kusama's edgy indie The Rut. The drama, which Variety describes as Winter's Bone meets Into the Wild, focuses on a young girl (Moretz) who seeks to earn the approval of her father (Morgan) by traveling deep into the dangerous wilderness to test out the hunting and survival skills that he has passed down to her. Centering on a teen girl with the skills to kill, The Rut also seems to share character traits with Hanna and The Hunger Games, though there's no indication that Kusama's feature will veer into the realm of action-adventure as those two do. Still, as Kusama's follow-up to the dismally dull horror flick Jennifer's Body, The Rut seems like a calculated return to form. Her first feature, the critically heralded Girlfight, »

Chloe Moretz will soon be one with nature.
The "Let Me In" star is preparing to prove her mettle by heading into the wilderness of the gritty indie drama, "The Rut," according to Variety.
"The Rut," which is being described as a cross between "Winter's Bone" and "Into the Wild," tells the story of a teenage girl (Moretz) who aims to win her father's approval by surrounding herself with danger and adventure as she journeys into the woodlands alone to hunt deer.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Watchmen"), who played something of a father figure to Moretz in "Texas Killing Fields," will portray her actual father in this film. Karyn Kusama is set to direct what sounds like a welcome return to her gritty "Girlfight" roots after floundering a bit with the likes of "Aeon Flux" and "Jennifer's Body."
As for Chloe Moretz, she got covered in blood in both "Let Me In" and "Kick-Ass, »
