skin, skin, and more skin, which is exactly the way it should be
Few shows have exhibited more meaningless nonsensical plots or gratuitous use of skimpy clothing than "Baywatch". Originally a failure in its early run on NBC, "Baywatch" went on to become the world's most popular television show once it became a syndicated program. "Baywatch" has made the public ever more aware of the important role lifeguards play in society, as well as the increasingly important role of silicone breast implants.
When watching the show, there are some things I'd like to change. First of all, get rid of David Hasselhoff and all other male actors on the show, they are simply a waste of time. Secondly, stop even trying to have a plot; the silly plots are a nuisance and get in the way of what the show really has to offer: sexy female bodies. And thirdly, get rid of those awful red swimming suits and replace them with....nothing....because as it stands now the show is just a tease, and nobody likes a tease.
In 1998, the fine people at Playboy Enterprises kindly answered my request by producing the now-classic video "Playboy's Babes of Babewatch". Gone are David Hasselhoff, David Charvet, and all those other male characters who just got in the way. No painful musical interludes from Germany's Mr. Hasselhoff either, who is mysteriously one of the most popular recording artists in Europe. Gone also are the gibberish-laden plots of Baywatch; "Playboy's Babes of Baywatch" has no plot. And gone also are the red lifeguard uniforms of Baywatch, replaced with skin, skin, and more skin, which is exactly the way it should be.
What "Playboy's Babes of Baywatch" does have is several actresses from the show, most of who happened to be Playboy Playmates before ever appearing on "Baywatch". Like the other Playboy videos, this one features lots of nudity and is recommended for adults only. This is no ordinary nudity either....it's "Baywatch" nudity!
The most famous "Baywatch" alum is featured on this tape. Pamela Anderson (Lee) has won several Emmy awards for her touching portrayal of the deep-thinking C.J. on "Baywatch". The Pamela Anderson footage featured on this tape is mainly relatively recent, and was shot not long before the removal of her breast implants. There is a lot of other Pam Anderson nude footage out there besides what is found on this tape, so the Pam Anderson footage is not particularly crucial.
Erika Eleniak is the only representative of the original NBC version of "Baywatch" to appear on this tape. The blonde centerfold from the turn of the last decade turned in a remarkable performance as Sunny on the early "Baywatch" episodes, and her performance here is equally remarkable, though obviously short on dialogue and long on preening and posing. Appearances by Eleniak in previous Playboy tapes was somewhat limited, so this footage is fairly significant from a historical point of view.
The video reaches a high point with the nude footage of Celebrity Centerfold Traci Bingham. The exotic beauty is shown during a photo shoot for Playboy that occurred in Jamaica. As far as I know, this is the only existing nude footage of Traci Bingham anywhere and makes the tape worth purchasing on its own.
Longtime B-movie actress and Baywatch lifeguard Lisa Boyle is also featured on "Playboy's Babes of Baywatch". I'm sure most of you remember her from her stirring role in "Raw Adventures at Bikini Point", which was oddly passed over for Oscar and Golden Globe consideration the year it came out. Nude footage of Lisa Boyle is as common as water molecules, and serves mainly as filler on this tape.
Carmen Electra is also featured on the video. I'm sure many of you know Carmen Electra from her recordings with Prince, relationship with Dennis Rodman, and past appearances on MTV as well as in the recent spoof "Scary Movie". There is an entire Playboy video devoted to Carmen Electra naked, so the footage of Carmen Electra is not particularly important from a collector's point of view, though it is quite impressive.
Other Playboy Playmates Donna D'Errico, Karin Taylor, and Kelly Monaco also appear on the tape. All of these models became regulars on "Baywatch" shortly after their appearances in Playboy, as a result nude footage of them is fairly scarce. Footage of D'Errico and Taylor is particularly sought after.
Unfortunately, Hugh Hefner's pockets were apparently not deep enough to make series regular Yasmine Bleeth appear in the magazine or on the video. Other than that, this video is just about perfect, and could drive some people to temporary insanity. Watch this tape, and you'll never look at "Baywatch" quite the same way again.
